spare tire for run flat M3

The M3 I'm about to take delivery of (an '08 with run flats), needs new tires. I'd like to replace them with non run flats.

I recall reading about a company who sells a "donut" spare tire for bmws - almost all of which have 5 x 120 pattern bolt pattern. I checked on this for an F10 (new gen) 5 series. I think they recommended an 18" rim with a thin spare tire to match the rolling diameter of the OEM rims/tires.

Anyone recall the name of this supplier? Thanks

M3's don't come with runflats so if this car has a set on it I would really checkout the car. I'm guessing you worked through the electrical issues from your other post. If you are daily driving the car I would just get a mobility kit. For long hauls a spare might be a good idea. Do a quick google search and you should find the spare you're looking for...........Phil

No M car comes with RFTs (thank God!) as far as I am aware. But the M-Mobility kit is standard, so the OP should already have it in the trunk?

I highly doubt the car has the original tires after five years. Most likely the previous owner cheaper out and stuck rfts on it.

Re: M3 and "spare" tire

Here is a site that sells a "donut" spare for all bmw's without a spare. I did further research and found that indeed the M3 does not come with run flats nor a spare. So either you have "great" roadside service, a "patch" kit (sticky stuff plus a compressor) or you can buy a pre-assembled donut spare from these folks for under $300.

Funny, years ago, any local service station or mechanic carried a "patch" kit - which consisted of a rubber plug, special glue and a sort of "pawl" tool. You pulled out the nail, etc., used the "pawl" to clean out the hole in the tire, then put the rubber plug (after putting on this special glue) into the hold. Cut the piece still sticking out past the tread - and off you went. Sometimes this patch would hold forever, other times it could start to leak - but usually with sufficient warning - to get you first to a tire place to have a permanent repair done. No places still offer this service. I think it's due to potential liability issues (such as a possible blow out if the patch "let loose" all of a sudden).

Spare tire for E90 series

Here is a discussion thread on spare tire kits for the E90. Should work for the M3 as well. I bought a kit from Tischer that included the tire, wheel and jack as offered on the 5 series.

We have one for the E90+ M3, http://www.bimmerzone.com/BMW_Perfor...E90M3-KIT.html
This will give you the clearance needed for the brakes as well as the correct rolling diameter (in between the front and the rear)

Hope this helps.
