Sooo you're saying that if I was single. "I have RFT's" would be a great pickup line (i.e speaks volumes).

Agree. Considering road conditions in the Northeast, and particularly those in areas like D.C., N.Y.C., and Boston, as well as what it costs to replace a 19' or 20' tire or wheel, this insurance is almost a no-brainer. Not to mention that it's nice to have even a little peace of mind for sh*t happening. For all the negatives that run flat tires have garnered...some of which probably deserved...my experiences were that when necessary they performed as advertised. Twice, one each in my 645Cic and 135i, the tires got me home and to the repair shop safely. Yes, it sucks that run flats don't allow second chances...they cannot be patched...but I have great peace of mind knowing that when my wife is driving her Mini Cooper S, the likelihood is that she won't be left stranded with a flat tire. And, yes, I purchased the road and wheel insurance for that car as well.

Gee...lucky to make it to the dealer on that tyre. 1 of my front RFTs bubbled (see pic) after 1600kms & I had to wear the cost of replacement except there was only 1 tyre in OZ & BMW wanted $A1,000 for it!!!!!!!!!! After I negotiated with the tyre place the dealer uses, I got it for cost - still $A680!!!!!

This is the 1st time in my life (44 years driving experience) I have ever got a bubble like this on a tyre; none of my last 2 beemer's RFTs did this in the 8 years I owned the 2 cars so I am very annoyed about this to say the least. Still, at least the BMW Service Manager involved me in the assessment every step of the way & the tyre assessor from Dunlop stepped me logically thru "why this is NOT a tyre waranty claim" - still doesn't ease the pain on a new car tho'.

Isn't it nice to know that if your wife (or you) gets a flat like this in a dangerous or isolated area she can just drive it home or to the nearest BMW dealer. No waiting for a tow truck to arrive. Of course the tires don't ride or handle as well as non RFTs. But which is more important? Like everything else in life "you pays your money and takes your choice".

Keep RF, they are so much better than regular tires.

I would say do it. If anything happened to wheel you can claim it and the dealer should change it. (If you are covered thugh)

Unfortunately that's not the case. I destroyed 2 runflats on the left side by hitting one pothole. It cost a bit over $900 to have both tires replaced. Luckily I had wheel and tire insurance.

I just bought myself a 530i, with Bridgestone RFT's, 18", and have so far no complains about the ride. But the discussion here is really interesting. What I understand from the discussion is that RTF's are more prone to failure compared to normal tires.

I live here in Dubai, and it gets as hot as 120F, tarmac temp could even reach 160F or higher. I have seen more than once a "normal" tire disintegrate at highway speeds without any warning. Typically the cause is a failure of the pattern binding (glue), side wall, or metal bands. These tires where for the eye in a perfect condition; but must have been actually defect as they likely had taken a beating during their earlier lifetime.

I cannot believe that a tire during a major impact with a pothole does not sustain internal damage... you just do not see it unless you get to its engineering limit later on. Maybe its not so bad after all that a RTF shows damage more easily?

Was that wheel OK? It's hard to tell from the picture whether it has damage or just some of the tire worn onto it.
