335 Vert Premium Stereo Without Nav?

Does anyone have a new 335 vert with premium sound package but no nav? Is the premium sound system the same with nav as it is without the nav?

This sounds silly but my 2011 Z4 has premium sound and no nav and the sound system is worse than the base stereo. It's time to order and I don't want to make the same mistake twice...

There was a downgrade of the basic sound system in 2011.
Previously in the US only the lowest system was what is called the Hi Fi
which had and amp and 10 speakers(tweeters count as speakers)
World Wide there was a ampless tweeterless system called the stereo system.
In what looks like some kind of cost cutting action that system got into the US
market which upset a lot of people . My guess is the same thing happened to your
Z4.

Also after 2011 the Hi Fi system was reinstated in the US as the lowest level sold minus
two tweeters in the rear for and 8 speaker system.(the hi fi system is called the premuim system
but should be called the mediocre system)

We have two Z4's with sequential VIN's. Both are 2011's

1. Base stereo - sounds ok
2. Upgraded "Premium" stereo. $1800 upgrade. Sounds horrible. Much worse than the base stereo. After a saga with BMW we were told that you need the NAV to get the premium stereo.

If I purchase the "Premium Sound Package/Harman Kardon surround sound system" in a 335vert without the NAV - will it sound better than the base stereo?

I have a 335 vert with premium sound and no nav. I haven't listened carefully to the base stereo so I can't directly compare. I can say I am very happy with the premium sound. It is better than any other stereo I have had from a car manufacturer.

We have the upgraded HK system without iDrive. Before we ordered, we listened to the stereos in two E93s -- one with the HK system and one without -- and noticed a significant improvement in sound with the upgrade, so we opted for it.

Here is an E93 HK configuration diagram on HK's website. There is no indication that the system is different with or without iDrive.

My understanding is that bluetooth streaming (Pandora, etc.) requires iDrive, but we have no use for that feature since we have an iPod with several thousand songs in our E93.

Cheers.

I have a 2013 328i convertible with nav & base stereo.

Although I didn't have the upgraded HK system & was looking around for upgrades at first.
Now with a few wks of driving around with top down & bass & highs tone settings turned up, it actually sounds pretty good. Surprising good bass & tweeters. Good enough for me...

My 09 has Logic 7 and no Nav and it sounds great. I think there is an issue with the "upgraded" stereo on your Z4. N4S

Where is all the bass coming from in the HK sound system of my 2012 E92? Is there a sub somewhere? If not, I am impressed with the amount of thump HK is able to get out of the stock speaker setup.

Two, one under each front seat. (Actually, all BMW sound systems have had them under the fronts for a while. However, the HK/Logic7 has additional power to them via the amp.)

There seems to be a great deal of confusion here

There seems to be a great deal of confusion here

If you read that list of links I posted above some of this will become clear.

The naming conventions are confusing especially when they use a name such as
premium system since its not the highest level system, the l7 commonly is and there
is another special system above that . Also what one country gets as the lowest level
system is not the same and in the US there was even a year where that wasn't true .
2010 to early 2011 was when that was true.
So when you say base system in the US it could mean the Premium Hi Fi or the stereo
base system which is common world wide.
