Buy a CAI or not?

Hello, I was wondering what peoples' thoughts are for installing a CAI on the E34? Should I go for it or just get the OEM filter instead?

Get an AFE filter for the OEM box. The OEM box is fine a CAI will just make it louder

yup hundred upon thousands of threads on the topic. benefits of a CAI are relatively none on BMW engines, they have a great intake from the factory facing the grill etc. On a Mitsubishi or Honda etc where the intake is at the back of the engine bay, a very different story.

I have a Home made one, Plastic tubing to not absorb heat, clear plexiglass tinted black as my heat shield.. Based mine loosely on an AFE design.
Costed 40$ to make everything.. CAR IS FAST, SOUNDS AWESOME.. i can feel the temp drop on the inside of my shield with my bare hands!

in ANYTHING at all... ^this.

I have K&N, which is oiled, which i havent ever had an issue with. the AFE can be had dry ("recommended") but that is as great a debate in the automotive world as sequential v traditional gearboxes...

Re: Buy a CAI or not?

I think Im going to go with just the filter, seeing as I do not really want to shell out $300.00+ for a CAI that will not make much of a difference (maybe after I switch jobs lol).
I noticed that there were loads of pages discussing this but I wanted to ask just to clarify everything.
Thanks on your input, much appreciated!!!
