Random question about rear sun shades

I am new to having rear sunshades in the vehicle. I prefer to keep them up all the time. However, I do plan on keeping the vehicle a long time, and want to make sure things won't get worn out for improper or excessive use.

If I leave them up 24/7 for extended periods of time lets just exagerate and say 6 months, will they lose their ability to retract down properly over time (tension wears out faster)? Or is it better to keep them down 24/7?

This the most ridiculous question I've ever asked.

Anything that moves will have wear and tear over time. With that said, I have had mine up for longer than 6 months and no issues with it retracting back down...

I had the same question with mine, I wanted them up all the time, but I am not using them at this time for fear of excessive wear.
I also drive often with the driver window down and I am afraid turbulence might damage them a bit as well.

I'd be curious to hear more feedback from people who keep these up all the time.

Thanks. I realize it will eventually wear. I just didn't want to speed up the process by using it in a way it wasn't intended

If the rear sun shades are tensioned via a metal spring of any kind, leaving the shade up or down will not wear out the retention. The process of spring wear is constant compression/expansion. So therefore, leaving it up full time will not affect it's ability to retract. However, rolling the windows down while driving highway speeds will more likely increase wear to the shades as air rushes through the tiny perforations.

Even if they fail to work, take it into the dealer and they'll fix it. You're under warranty for quite a while
