05 x5 4.4 engine shake

Hi everyone, so I'm driving and my service engine light starts flashing followed by a rough shake to my engine. It happens while the engine is idling and also while accelerating, prettying when ever the engine is on its doing it. Could this be a timing problem or an ignition/misfire problem ?

You have an ignition coil going out. I went through this 6mo ago.. I went through 3 coils... If you have the code read at autozone they will tell you what coil is misfiring. Cheapest I have found was on rockauto.com hope this helps

Thanks this helped a million. I had an ignition cool problem about a year ago and changed them all, is there something else that could cause the ignition coils to go bad so fast ?

Mine were factory and 11-12 years old with the car having 120000 miles so it was time, check your seals on the valve cover gasket.. Mine was leaking causing issues so that's all done and no more bad coils. You can tell its leaking when you pull the coil, pull the plug as well if there's oil then you need a new seal kit. Don't forget the bolt seals if you do it make sure it comes as a kit.. (Also got mine from rockauto) just an FYI..should be a thread in here that I looked at while I did mine

Had that issue and the valve cover seals were leaking oil into the spark plugs cylinders. 3 of the spark plug/coils were cpompletely submerged in oil. I replaced the gaskets myself and it was not too difficult. It took a Saturday afternoon.

How would I know which cylinder is cylinder 3 ? I checked the codes and it says cylinder 3 has an ignition issue so I'm going to change the coil tomorrow morning but don't know how to tell which is cylinder 3. Anyone know ?

Should be the second one front the front on the left side. If you can clear the code then swap the cool with another cylinder and see if the code shows up on the other cylinder, then you can confirm a bad coil.
