X5 and X5Ms on track

I didn't see a thread dedicated to X5s or X5Ms on race tracks, so thought I'd start one.

I'll say this: After some points and laughs, people were surprised, in awe, and simply shocked at how a 5500# beast can handle a course.

A few laps with me around the historic Laguna Seca Raceway, in Monterey, CA (stock RFTs)

And a whole session with me at Sears Point / Sonoma Raceway, in Sonoma, CA (Nitto non-RFTs):

That is pretty sweet to see this big SUV running hot laps. I'v been tempted to take my diesel to the drag trip, let alone run a few laps in it. These things handle for such a big and tall vehicle. Cant imagine an M.

Looks much better than I expected. How'd did the brakes hold out? Were you running the street tires? How'd they look afterward?

It hauls. I will go with DieWolfe to the local drags as well for a night of fun. People will be surprised to see a big SUV beat on big V8 cars that run 13s.

Brakes started to mush a little at Laguna, which is a big HP track with a hard braking zone at the end of a long straight. Brakes felt fine at Sears, but I didn't push it too much. OEM RFTs at Laguna, Nitto NT05 at Sears. They looked. . . very worn at the edges.

Wow, your lines look really good. How much track experience do you have?

From the first video, I think you might've been OK to push a bit harder in the corners. The tires sounds like they have a bit more traction left

Did you have to flip your front tires after those track days? lol. I bet the lack of front camber isn't kind to your tires.

LOL ! I can't believe they would admit that 6MPG is the maximum shame level they can display to the driver LOL

I have to say that pictures of an X5M dashboard showing 2MPG might go viral for the wrong reason

Bumping from the dead, as I'm back on this forum because we picked up a 14' 535d. . .

I have done a lot of events in my track toy Nissan 350z. I actually towed the Z to Laguna Seca in the X5M when I shot the first video, but the Z was down although I had already registered for the Sears Point event, so I took the X5M to that event instead. I do door-to-door racing in the Z with NASA in a new series just for Zs.

Since these events, I also went to the drags with the X5M at Sears Point, and had a ton-o'-fun letting her loose on a bunch of high 13s runs.

Wow, just wow. Now if I could just convince my wife to let me take ours to the Green Hell....

But truthfully, my only race experience is self-taught, so maybe it's better off I don't take her car.
