Your aging BMW: Loser!

.

A late 80s 911 is a much, much better sports car than any 3 manufactured since 2006.

"Outrageous!" you shout.

"Yer nuts!" you say. "Foolish little man, you own one!"

Well, consider this: That 25 year old dino out handles any 3, and without fancy tech like adaptive headlights, more sensors and computer controls than any one man can know, and valvetronic this and interconnected that, the 911 is grossly more reliable.

KISS. Are the old ways the best ways?

Dude! I just yesterday received my YJ mounts + AX15 adapter for LM7 conversion.

300+ hp & torque in a much lighter package than my 3. Easily pumped to over 500.

Looking forward.

Might not best on the skid pad, but By Gum can out-run my meth'd 3!

Dude, calling the 3 series a sports car is akin to calling Katy Perry a good singer. Then again she has proper air bags.

And what would the purchase price of that Porsche have been in 2013 dollars? End of discussion. Besides, aren't we comparing macadamias to maraschinos? Cal, do you tend to see a lot of flashing colorful lights, forget what year it is and how to get home from the corner store? I'm concerned.

What really about Cal's post is not his comparison with a Porsche 911. It's the other half of his claim "...any 3'er since 2006".

Wait, I just re-read Cal's post, I think he's talking only about reliability and simplicity. In that case I take back everything I said, implied and innuendoe'd about Cal. He got it right.

honestly, I dont think you should even compare the two. People are always comparing cars that aren't in the same class, (ex. Godzilla V Supersnake) and in this case your a comparing an older HIGH-end track car to a newer sporty luxury road car. They were designed for different purposes and that's why why there is such a large difference in handling, even if one is 25 years older.

And regardless of the point I just made above, if you were to compare the cars.. Just because the 25 year old 911 MAY or MAY NOT (I don't want to say either way until I see them tracked.) out handle the newer BMW doesnt make it a "much, much better sports car than any 3 manufactured since 2006." That's nonesense, there is so much more to a car than the handling. I think I am going to have to call shenanigans on this, sorry.

The 1980's NBA Chicago Bulls are much better than the 2000's NFL Cleveland Browns.

Story about that. Oh no not another one. Depends on the objective. Example modern Fighters. Pretty much the last stick & rudder fighters were late 1950's designs. In Korea a good pilot in an F86 was pretty much king of his air space even against the more agile & faster climbing Mig 15. But a big BUT most of the F86 kill rate was wracked up by just a small number of ace pilots.

Fast forward to the FBW F-16. Skipped the F15 because it was just computer assisted. The computer system make anyone who can manage the G load a very very good pilot. It does takeaway a bit from the natural high skill pilots but overall its force multiplier.

Something in fantasy land I would like to see is Mark Donahue in his Sunoco Blue Z/28 take on Regular Joe driving a 2014 Z/28 at Laguna Seca. You couls also throw in a pair of old & new Boss Mustangs to make it really interesting.

Bottom line is the computers make pretty average drivers very good drivers in cars they would have no business in under the KISS strategy. I know that does not count on fan sites because each & every poster is the best driver in the country.

I apologize. Then I would think you are happy with the nannies. I am a wonderful driver & keep the traction control off but am real happy with the second level stability control being on.

Well, in 2013 about $20k for quality. Handling superb. Rear seat room somewhat tight. Fun factor & satisfaction way North o'Head & Shoulders!

On the second, yes I do, and great fun it is. Just being lost awhile is an adventure, and let's face it, things look different after dark. Ummmmm....what were we saying?

I'm with Cal, I'd take a 993, not for the handling, but for the sound and the interior and overall build quality. THOSE were Porsches!

On another note, please give a rousing cheer, and then again, for a guy who, today, truly emulated Waterboy's point o'view + fine sense o'humor:

Oh, and Arnie Schwarzenegger's most famous line as a politician....

[Describing Democrats] "I call them: Girlie Men"

He said it exactly once, at a stop at Ontario airport, East of LA. Like Superman going back in time that bit o'news circled the globe via Internet news sites in less than a minute. That is star power!

The reaction in San Francisco was pronounced. But we don't have that today....there's been little flair or talent for entertainment....now comes Hank Johnson - a step in the right direction.

Maybe he can get Jay Leno's job? Does that mean I can no longer put helium in my tires to make the car lighter?
