BMW now offers Free Satellite Radio for 1 Year for all new cars, Are they coming this way or will I need to show or do anything to get it when I take delivery next week?

Thanks.

They've done this for quite a while, at least since 2009 when I bought my 535.

If you ordered a satellite radio, you're good to go, but you do have to call Sirius and walk through the process of switching on the reception. You will give them your phone number, which they will then use to mercilessly hound you when the year is up.

Free Sat Radio 1 Year...

I understand if you click the option you get it for a year. They just released a press release stating all new owners get a year free of All Access package.

This package was not part of what was offered before. I'm wanting to know if you didn't add Prem Package ( which sat is included ) you get the one year free like stated.

You can't add Sirius as a stand alone now anymore. I know bimmertech has it for $320 and dealer is about double but that includes the one year service as part of that price. If its one year free then there shouldn't be any extra price to "activate"

I know it's just coding to equip it if you have it prewired. That's what I'm trying to find out

Thanks.
I'm trying to find out the same. I didn't see Sat available under my radio options. I'm guessing because its not "equipped" but pre wired. I asked my CA and he said I gotta pay like $600 at service to install it.

I'm going to call BMW tomorrow and ask. He made it seem like its not free unless you payed to have it before ordering

Tuner is built-in, just not activated by software code (FSC).

My interpretation of this new "freebie" is that the FSC is no longer a factory-installed option or a dealer-installed accessory software loading session. Sirius tuner will be pre-activated from factory with one year subscription included at no cost in new BMW.

You have to buy part ( code ) to activate the Sat function. You then have to go to Service and have them code it.

So much for FREE!

Quoted almost $700

It's $375 for the code. SA said another $400 for install. I could have misunderstood if he meant $470 total but sounded like another $400 to do the labor

When I initially read the new press release (4/18/13), regarding 'BMW Customers Now Get One-Year Subscription to SiriusXM's All Access Package with New Vehicle Purchase', it sounded to me that all new BMW's might be getting 1 year free, as I believe they come with satellite tuner installed (need code to activate).

After reading several threads on this, and wondering what the news release means, as prior to this, if you paid for Sirius option (or via premium pkg), you also got the service for 1 year (included)...

Maybe the key to this news release is the part about 'All Access'?

Prior to april 18, for those that got premium pkg, and got the 1 year of included service, what package was it? 'All Access Package'? Or some other Sirius package?

Bryan

I'm still not clear how this is any different from what they have always offered. When I bought my 535 in 2009, I ordered Sirius and got 1 year free.

The difference is they now put in the 'all access' package instead of the 'best of Sirius' package.

All Access gets you online listening for a year on your computer, smartphone, etc. Before, you didn't get the online listening for free for the year.

Premium Package includes the Sirius FSC. So there should not be any press release for that unless is saying that the Premium Package price have been reduced due to Sirius FSC being free.

But that's not what the press release is stating.

Again, the press release says that any BMW that comes with Sirius now gets the All Access Package for free. It doesn't say anything about getting the radio activated for free unless I'm really misreading something?

All Access is the name of a package that Sirius sells which gets you online listening in addition to the normal radio subscription.

After reading it again I agree with you... what is free is the "All Access" and not the Sirius activation. (to me)

Normally there is a disclaimer or a fine print paragraph at the bottom of these press releases stating the conditions/requirements of the free offer. But in fact there is none, only the casual mention of any MY2013 BMW "equipped with a satellite radio starting this month".

Considering that most BMW are indeed equipped with a Sirius tuner from factory but not activated then it really got me going...

Yeah, I believe they chose poor wording to say "any BMW 'equipped' with Sirius" instead of saying "any BMW with BMW 'activated'.

Of course, I still wonder why BMW just doesn't activate it for every BMW to begin with instead of selling it as an upcharge.

The hardware is there already, and they don't have to pay Sirius a licensing fee or anything like that for Sirius to be turned on. So why not have it activated in every BMW?

Maybe BMW has to pay a fee for the "free" one year trial since most Sirius trials are only three months long?

Just, if you are going to pay for the hardware in every car, you may as well turn it on in every car -- after all, Sirius makes their money by selling subscriptions (not hardware).

But to have it only in the premium package is crazy. Why not at least bundle it with Harmon Kardon or the Technology package? Just makes no sense -- I don't know who decided it should be a part of a package that includes a moonroof, comfort keyless entry and lumbar support.

And BMW's information about adding it to a car without the premium package is confusing to dealers and everyone wants a different dollar figure to enable it. In fact, I've been to 6 dealers shopping and told each SA that I didn't want a moonroof but wanted Sirius and they ALL told me that was impossible until I showed them the information from BMW. And then, they claimed it would take additional hardware and at least 5 hours of labor to install and that it would cost more than just buying the premium package.

*shrug*

Tried to activate mine, got 'no signal', Sirius shows it as a valid account and said I need to go to the dealer to connect the antenna?

Are you in Hawaii like your profile states? If so, I don't think that the signal for Sirius reaches to Honolulu.

According to this URL, the satellite coverage area doesn't cover Hawaii.

Is this a Convertible? If so then the Convertible is the only model that does not have the Sirius antenna standard as the Sedan/Coupe/Wagon at least from 2010-on.

It has to be purchased as an accessory at the dealer.

Reviving an old thread...

Just called Sirius, and entitled to a full year free.
And as stated, many years after with perpetuous calls...

As for Sirius, don't have it yet, but should have the FSC code in a day or 2.
And not from the stealer !

Question:
Did any of you had to give their CC to Sirius to be eligible for the free year ?
