2011 328i xDrive - Engine rumble in cabin

Just joined the forum, although this is my second 3 series, great online community !

I swapped my old 2006 325i for a 2011 xDrive 328i e90 in late 2012. I really enjoyed the 325i but RWD in winter was becoming a challenge in Montreal so decided to go for an Xdrive model.

Overall, love the 3-series !

This 328i xDrive however sounds much louder than my old 2006 325i. When the car is stopped on drive "D" or reverse "R" (ie on red light) I can hear a deep engine/gearbox rumbling noise resonating across the cabin. It kind of sounds like a subwoofer stuck on a very low frequency note.

The noise stops once I switch the auto gearbox into "N" neutral or parked "P" or when I rev the engine above the 600 RPM line which is the usual Idle value reading i get.

I will contact the dealer but i have little hope that they will actually do something about it, the car runs just fine.

Has any Bimmer Forum fan experienced this sort of noise ? Is the 2011 328i just louder than my previous 2006 325i ? Does my Idle need adjustment ?

Thanks for you input !

If you barely touch the throttle while sitting at the light, does the motor smooth out with a slightly higher RPM? if yes, perhaps it is just idling low when under load. I bet turning on the A/C in same circumstance only makes it worse. Not sure if idle is set mechanically or in software though.
