Finally got my Garmin Nuvi GPS installed

Fairly happy with how the install looks. Not many options for mounting in these things!!!
Need to start working on a full pop up custom mount now.

Yeah, does that Garmin mount come with the Garmin GPS?

I already have a KUDA on order and was thinking of upgrading my GPS to one of gthe newer thin ones like this. What model GPS is this Garmin?

Ok, figured it out. This is the new Garmin nuvi 3597LMT. The charger is part of the car mount.

Looks like a good one.

Already have the intern calling his little friend at best buy to get what my price will be!

Thanks guys......you can get the leather mount from Kudausa.com. Its specific to the e90. The magnetic mount comes with the 3597 only. Just released that model a few days ago for 2013. The screws in the face of the Kuda were a left over from the Amps pattern mount I orignally used. Hated it, so I drilled a 1" hole in the Kuda to press in the 17mm nuvi ball socket. The Amps mount holes were still visible, so I covered them with FHCS. Kinda ruins the look a little, might make a cover plate later.

In the end, I might make my own kuda style mount so that the Garman magnetic base would fit flush inside the mount. I don't like the fact that it sits out from the dashboard as much as it does. It looks worse in the pictures than it really is, but I would still like to have it closer.

Definitely more details needed. That is definitely the cleanest mount for a Garmin I've ever seen. The biggest thing I hate about putting our Nuvi in the car is that the dash mount leaves residue on the smooth plastic airvent area that alway has to be cleaned off.

Good Job!

There's also the ProFit G3.

I have looked into those before. they say it only works up to 2010 models. I don't see what changed for it not to work in 2011+ e9x's.

Any thoughts on that?

OP, what Garmin mount did you use from Kuda, if any? The one with the AMPS template, part number HA-CNM-21. or the trim ring template, part number HA-CNM-22?

Slightly OT, but we had a case out here in CA where a driver fought a ticket for texting by claiming he was using his device as a GPS. He lost and the judge ruled that the anti-txt laws covered ANY use of the phone. I find that ridiculous and don't see how using Googlemaps is any different from iDrive or a nuvi.

Anyway, these distracted driving laws are going to impact various mounting solutions for mobile devices, it is only a matter of time.

Technically you aren't supposed to operate a gps (even built in) whilst the vehicle is in motion.

Yeah, the whole thing is touchy. I never seem to f'up when using my GPS, rarely text/email while driving, but do a lot of hands free talking. Problem is that is me, and the data out there clearly shows that no one should be doing anything but driving.

All it does is mount into the backing behind the trim panel. AFAIK, the trim pieces are interchangeable in all of the E90 series, so I can't see why it wouldn't fit.

Can't speak to an F30, though.

True, but that isn't restricted to electronic gizmos. Pull up at any red light, and you'll see people doing all sorts of stuff in their car - much of which does not require elegant mounting solutions like the above!

This issue is going to be complex for upscale brands like BMW to manage, because part of what sells uplevel cars are features and gadgets. We all bought our BMWs for the driving experience, but options are still in high demand by the upscale buyer.
