Because Racecar: Gooby's Track Adventures v1.00

I finally got around to editing and uploading the photos and video from this weekend at Thunderhill.

The photos were taken the by photographer there. I just had to do some minor editing like up the contrast since his photos were a little washed out.

The video was the disappointing part since my gopro still didn't want to cooperate. I spun out once on the last run of the last session on Saturday and at the end of the session below (which was one right before last) my FULLY CHARGED gopro ran out of battery, which is weird because usually it'll last me two-three days on a single charge. On Sunday it just ran out out memory. On the bright side, I did manage to record my fastest sessions on both Saturday and Sunday so those are posted below. You can actually see me get passed by TWO GTR's on Saturday, one at 7:05 and the other at 7:50. As for the data acquisition, only ignore the speed. The track map and timings are pretty accurate, the speed is off by a bit and lags so it's only there to get an idea of the speed.

Photos are here...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/randyha...7633371899251/

Fastest lap was lap 4...

Fastest lap was again lap 4...

And yes, my sticker did fly off on Sunday...lol

You could use some advanced training. Looks like fun.

Yeah I'm getting an instructor next time I'm out. I think my line is pretty set, it's just where to brake that's tricky. You can tell I coast a lot... :/

You should try the BMW CCA HPDE. It's expensive, but our instructors are usually much more involved than SCCA or NASA. And you get smaller run groups and more track time.

The next one is at Laguna Seca during O'Fest (August), but after that I think we're doing Thunderhill in November.

Don't forget BMW brakes are awesome, so brake late, and brake hard. Only coast if you need to avoid hitting another driver... Neutral throttle in the turns is OK, but not as good as double apexing (slight brake lift while steering, then power on through the turn). Just gotta be smooth or you'll Power On Overseer (POO).

Yea most people get a Laguna Pipe, which is basically a special muffler section for use only at Laguna.

Who thought it would be a good idea to build expensive houses next to a world class race track? Idiots...

Its the same idiots that built in Los Altos next to a damn quarry and then filed suit that it was too loud. You bought cheap land for a reason, don't be a primadonna and think that now that you have a house everyone else should tiptoe around you and change how they've been doing things since long before you showed up.

Exact same situation re railroads and housing developments. Tracks have been there 100+ years, some whiz-bang developer comes along and builds a row of high-six-figure houses, then raises hell with the railroad when his new tenants are "disturbed" by trains going past. Idiots.

Is there such a thing as a non-six-figure house (unless we go to 7 or 8 I suppose)?

Pretty cool! First time out is a bit intimidating but after a couple of runs everyone gets more comfortable. Definitely get an instructor next time. Most of the instructors have been doing high performance driving for years and you can learn more in one 20 minute session with them riding along than can by trial and error on your own in 3 or 4 track sessions.

PS Your line may need some work. Hard to tell for certain from the video but Jared is right in that you can run in much deeper into the turns, and your turn in points looked really early which was pushing you to the margin/rumble strips coming out of the turn. If you run in deeper along the outer margin and then brake harder and make a more aggressive turn in it gives you a better exit line. Something I need to work on also. A lot. A whole lot.

Yessir! They're routed into the stock brake duct holes in the fender liner lol. They're actually cooling my tires more than my brakes since the tubing is directed right onto my tires lol.

And no those are mostly bugs...lol.

This is actually my 3rd and 4th time on the track. And yeah I know...brake late, turn in late. I've actually been told multiple times by multiple people lol. It's just my balls aren't big enough to do so. I'm still pretty pansy out there. It just feels weird. Once I feel more comfortable I will I guess...haha
