HUD display question

I just picked up my 2014 and I always get the speed I'm traveling displayed. Is there a way to shut that off?

Yes, there is one way: shut the HUD off via i-drive.

You can also program one of the 8 hard button presets to HUD on/off. I love that feature

Program the buttons to turn HUD on/off? How the hell do you do that? I thought they only jumped to a menu location ... teach me oh wise one :-)

Not that I want to turn the HUD off directly mind, although it's nice to try.

Speaking of HUD, does anyone know if the new 2014 model with the funky new color scheme has other information in the HUD, like gearing / rev counter (like M series) etc... Would be nice to get them without programming (esp. for diesels where the rev counter apparently isn't matched up - based on the revving capability of an M class engine)

go into the settings in idrive where you normally turn hud on/off from that screen press and HOLD one of the hard presets 1-8. (i use 8). should beep or something and voila!! i found this trick from my Perf Delv Ctr on my X6 few yrs ago. The nav unit did NOT auto darken the nav screen at night, crazy.
