Clutch slipping

I constantly smell burnt clutch when I drive. I can confidently say that its not my driving. Ive driven dozens of manual cars and owned a few of my own and have never experienced this before.

When accelerating quickly its most prominent but I've also smelled it just cruising at highway speeds.

Could it just be a bad clutch/pressure plate or could it be something else like the delay valve?

Does the clutch show any signs of slipping other than smell? This could be a dragging front brake caliper.

Maybe the clutch needs to be replaced. Maybe the lines need to be flushed/bled.

The reason I suggested it was a brake drag is that it's VERY unusual to smell clutch at highway speeds, even if it is slipping. I wish the OP would reply.

No other signs other than the smell. Next time I drive it I'll confirm the speed vs RPM and see if its off what's expected.

I'll double check if the wheel is dragging next time I have it up, but I doubt it.

The same thing happened to me after i did a brake drag and didnt let go of the clutch in time and gave it too much gas.. i basically burnt out my clutch and took off a few thousand miles and the smell lasted for a few days but eventually went away. If it doesnt go away after a week you probably have a problem.

The smell never lingers more than a couple minutes. The more I think about it the more I think it may not be the clutch at all. I know I have an oil leak so maybe it's just that burning on the exhaust. It's just that it smells like a burnt clutch/brake, but I could be wrong.

That would make a LOT more sense. It's difficult for burnt clutch smell to get into the car when you're running at highway speed. It gets pushed out the back without having easy access to the interior unless you have a knackered shift boot and lower seal.

Re: Clutch slipping

At highway speeds I can only smell it with the window open. I should also add its very difficult to get into 1st gear.

Clutch slipping

I need to replace my clutch!

But my clutch is still ok. It only slips when I shift at 7.7k rpm...

Also I have annoying flywheel rattle!

Man I hate my car!
