Unhappy Any hardtops for a 1999 m3 e36 out there?

My convertible top just loves to never work. I've tried just about everything to fix it, it just seems to be a purgatorial vortex of problems. I'm looking for a hardtop. I don't really know if it can be painted in the same manner as the car. I've got a silver m3 with a ton of problems. I'm going to look into cataloging all of these problems and posting them in a new thread en masse. I'd really appreciate any help.

Yea, please make one big thread for your project. The hard tops are expensive. If you find one for ~$1500 in good condition, buy it. There's a ton of silver ones around the Bay Area, but they're all in use. Typically people sell them when they crashed the car, but the hardtop was off the car. Very rarely will someone part the hardtop out.

Of course, you could buy a new one, but they cost about as much as the book value of the car.

Here's a good example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINT-BMW-E36...c4328c&vxp=mtr

I had to settle for a top that wasn't the same color. A black hardtop will work on almost any car.

Even if you get the right color, it'll look a little off...the body is beautifully blocky and the top is really round.

I sure as heck wouldn't call it "off". The contour of the hardtop really compliments the body shape, at least IMO.

A friend (and forum member) drove from TN to Pensacola, FL to buy a near-perfect condition hardtop I found him on Craigslist. For $500 it was well worth the trip. Most you see are for sale in the $1200-$1500 range, but there were two $500 ones that came up within a week. If I'd have had the money, I'd have bought the second one just to resell.

Yes they're out there!

Usually around $1500-$2000 bucks!

Not color matched either!

Good luck with that... Though I did see one at my local scrap yard a few months back in good condition. That thing was gone in like a week lol

If your '99 M3 is an E36, yes, it will fit.

Thx, Hornhospital! I forgot there's an e46 overlap. I'll need a factory install kit if I do find a hardtop, no?

Hey, about the e36 hard top. I think it fits a '99 m3 if the body style is still e36. Yes, you will need a kit that allows the top to be installed on the hardpoints next to the convertible structure. I bought the kit from Bavauto.com and installed the metal attach points on my '97 328. Then my 328 is sold and the attach-hardware went with it.
If you're interested, you can email me at dogget77@yahoo.com. The hardtop was listed on ebay but not sold. It is in Columbus, Ohio. Glossy black exterior and tan headliner.

Correct. Pretty cheap, and simple to install from what I've been told.
