Mind Helping a Newbie with a Few Items?

So I was replacing my starter yesterday and while removing the infamous top bolt I broke a little metal piece off of some electrical connection. I disconnected it to get a little more room to loosen the bolt. In the picture below there should be a metal tab where the white arrow is pointing. This thing is on the back of the engine near the firewall. Ive got the M30B34 engine in my 535i. What exactly did I just break?

Also when removing my starter I noticed a broken vacuum hose of some sorts that was just dangling from the point indicated by the white arrow below? This thing is just on the underside of the intake manifold? Where does this line run to?

Thanks in advance for the help. Ive owned an E46 for two years now and only just recently purchased this E28.
