Interior lighting

Has anyone replaced their interior lights with LEDS? I can't stand that the door handles are nice and white but open the door and everything is piss yellow.
I've been looking for a kit for our beloved F01/F02 but the closest I can find are for the F10s

http://www.e92-lighting.com/products...T-1246-47.html

Wondering if anyone has tried this set or something similar? I figure the F10 set should be close enough?

Josh

Never thought of upgrading the lights, but making me think of a brighter future.

I would not switch to LED on the interior. My wife has Acura MDX with all blue LED interior. I hate it, it feels sooooo cold and its not enough lights. I would never do it unless there was a choice of warmer colors.

Agree with Doktorek on this.
Interior lighting should be soft, not resemble daylight.
May look like fluorescent lighting, which is horrible.
Plus, I thought LEDs require different dimmers?
Not sure a direct swap will work, as the interior lights dim gradually to off.

Really? Have had 3 7 Series...and I am an iDrive junkie, and have NEVER seen this option. Please provide details where exactly in iDrive this option/feature is, and what sub-category you found this in.

It's under settings then "lighting", it is set to "classic" which is the red/orange hue, and you can switch to modern (white hue). If you have B&O, it's the same color white as around the speakers!

It's in the accessories catalogue. It's basically 10 OEM LED bulbs. I installed them in mine way back and they've been perfect. It's like a flood light has hit the car when someone opens the door and they fade out like oem halogens when the door has been closed. I got mine from a dealer in Germany while on vacation. Part no was 63122212788

This is a link on ebay.

This may be a silly question. How do you open up the front dome light to replace the lamp and the reading lamp to replace the bulbs. I started prying at it and it does not seem to come off. There must be clever way of opening it.

Its new on the '13, we also have little theatre-like LED lighting on the inside B pillars. You can swap between modern and classic in the iDrive.

Just a quick iPhone video, sorry for quality!

Its hard to see in the video, but the lighting is pretty cool at night when you're driving, I think the light reflecting from the headlights are minimizing the effect.

Pop out the cover around the SOS button and then look inside you will see 2 screws, open and pull the entire thing down gently.

I prefer 5000K daylight white, not 6000K cool white, so I wouldn't recommend purchasing a kit if you want a specific color temperature. I purchased all my bulbs from VLEDs, and you will need special bulbs with resistors for the dome lamps (regular bulbs won't work, circuit will get turned off because wattage is too low). Here are links to the bulbs I got:

Dome:

Doors, Footwells, Glove Box:

http://www.vleds.com/5k-white-4-led-...58-1-pair.html

Trunk:

http://www.vleds.com/bulb-type/festo...1-562-564.html

I also got a couple other bulbs, but they were not as bright, so I ended up purchasing more of the 2W flank bulbs above and put these in the 745i instead (replacing 6000K bulbs). These are quite a bit cheaper, so it's not a bad deal, but they won't work in the dome light:

So just to confirm. You are talking about the screws I show in the picture (I only show one side).

It appears to be a t-10 or t-15 screw. BTW, don't mind the LED.

Dang. Just went to Autozone to get a torx screwdriver set. It is t-10. Man, it is a pain to get these bulbs replaced. The bulbs come out from the backside which is interesting. I will say that it is very well built German engineering.

Definitely recommend upgrading the interior lights to LED. Mine are not bright that it looks like daylight (totally agree, interior at night should not make you squint from it being to bright when first turned on). It was just that the OEM bulbs in my interior didn't project enough light. The LED's solved that, and you can just see more - plain and simple.
