Pair iPhone on a Non-iDrive BMW

Any thoughts on playing music (iTunes, Pandora) through blue tooth connection on a non-iDrive with an iPhone 5? Also does the voice activated feature work with iPhone 5, I'm clueless trying to figure these out. Many thanks.

Bluetooth streaming is not possible without iDrive and enhanced Bluetooth. Siri works through Bluetooth but you must activate her via the iPhone.

Some people buy a bluetooth to stereo jack gadget. You then sync your phone to the gadget and select AUX input on the head unit.

I went without iDrive and will be using a mini cruizer 32 GB usb stick for my music. Just leave it in the car and no hassle each time you get in.

edx1,
How do you pick the artist, track, etc. without the iDrive screen?

It depends on how you organize directories+files or playlists on the usb stick.

The BMW professional radio in our cars "navigates" a USB stick via directories. The radio doesn't read id3 data for organization, but it does read it when a particular song is playing.

I personally have all my music stored in Artist/Album/Track.mp3 format which makes it easy to organize and navigate. There are tools out there that will take any mess of a MP3 library and put files in to this directory and file format. You can also create .m3u playlists, though you are best served if playlists are all in the root / directory as the radio doesn't support playlists of songs in paths up from the current directory, only down.

I posted a link on this thread that is the manual for the radio in our cars (though it's a Z4 radio manual). I'd recommend reading up on it as it has a lot of useful information.
