Had Recall Done, Found Something Interesting In Trap...Photos!

Under the hood, in the removable plastic trap on passenger side that I periodically remove and shake out bits of leaves and twigs, and runoff from wipers etc, I found some sort of black plastic clip that must have come loose during battery recall fix.

It's about 2 inches long, black, and top side looks like an elongated "H."
The underside has a small rounded channel with several steel- colored "teeth."

Any idea where it belongs?
Can I just clip it back on and save a trip to Dealer?
Thanks...

In this case, a pic is indeed worth 1000 words...

Call the dealer and speak with the service manager,I seems like "SERVICE" is slowly deteriorating at BMW,I refuse to put up with anything less than perfection, isn't that the reason we bought our Bimmers?

I don't think any work is done under the hood for the recall you mention. Is there a possibility the alien device was used to retain the sound pad attached to the underneath of the hood? You don't list the year of your 328 so I don't even know for sure you have the pad.

It's a 2011 328i sedan...
Poking around under the hood, I may have discovered what it is...
There is a thin black rubber tube that runs directly over the passenger side trap...
I think it is the hose that delivers the windshield washer fluid to the passenger side nozzle...
This black H-shaped clip may sit right under this black hose...
It seems to clip on to this little black plastic projection that sits above the trap, and seems to support the hose, almost like those little white plastic stands that sit under a pizza box lid..
Sorry for no photos...
Can anyone confirm??
Thanks!

I feel like it is a year 1887 with the Internet access. Can someone teleport me back to 21st century.
Even a cell phone picture might help your quest, unless you want to look for the part at realoem.com

Ahh, 1887 times were so much simpler then.

Perhaps, the alien part is the cover for the power terminals from the battery and to the alternator? Nearly "h" shaped..

The suspense is killing me...

There are several of those under the hood. Sounds like this one lets the pass side windshield washer hose rest on it secured with black cloth tape.

Retaining clip. Fell in there on the assembly line.

Right. Notice the raised boss with the corrugations across it, a couple inches in front of the hose clip? That's where another one of those clips would attach in a different application.

The washer fluid hose is sitting there with a few strips of black cloth tape wrapped around it, strips doing absolutely nothing now...
So this clip sits on the black corrugated projection and then is taped to and supports the hose correct?
It makes sense since I had the wiper blades changed at the recall visit as well...
Clip must have come loose then...
Thank you for saving me a trip back to the dealership...

Tape it for factory look.
Note; Those clips are already on the tubes and wiring harnesses when the parts are put into place on the assembly line. It's very strange that the OP found one which looks like it was never attached to anything. Maybe there was an assembly line change and those were being added to prevent chafing until a running change was made to the tube or harness assembly.
