Alpina B7 or M5?

After not having my 7 for a month (lease transfer) and spending a painful month with a Jaguar XFR (lemon) I am faced with a very difficult decision: M5 or B7. My dealer has both and they are roughly the same to lease. The B7 is SWB, white, and is not fully loaded. The M5 is moonstone and is pretty much fully loaded with B&O, exec package and driver assist.
HELP! Want to decide by tomorrow. I have driven both and like both of them.

Well imho go with the B7. It's much more limited than the M5 and better loaded to begin with. Also after your previous F02, the F10 might feel a little small.

Both are marque cars. I saw a new M5 yesterday on the 10 Freeway and couldn't take my eyes from it as it passed. Tough choice, but I'd go with the M5.

What day of the week is it? It's almost as arbitrary as that - you can go either way. A good problem to have.

B7 - luxury sedan that can be sporty.
M5 - sports sedan that can be luxurious.

Which best suits your driving needs? I'd go B7, since I use my car with the family. Also 5 series are everywhere. If you are the only person using the car, also take a look at the Porsche 911 - excellent leasing right now.

Additonal thought - get both.

You're going to want to lease another car after this one, right? Get the B7 now, as and LCI, and then get the M5 next, as its LCI. The LCIs are usually more desirably since they incorporate all development updates.

Same price?!? I was given a rough quote of about 1400/mo for a M5 for about the same sticker versus what I have now at under 1k/mo. I'd gladly pay 400/mo more for an Alpina, after seeing racecar throw his lease payment of 2500/mo, I didn't even think to look into them, I'd never pay that much for a non-Bentley/RR

I'd go with the Alpina, if you can get them for the same price, the Alpina is truly unique over here State-side. The M5 is like a trim level above a 550 M Sport, nothing against the M5 - its a beautiful car, its just they are no where near as exclusive as a B7.

Good luck ory!
Chris

One difference I'm not sure off. The Rear Differential. One of the best things about my M3 was the M rear differential. It makes a difference. I don't know if the B7 comes with an LSD, but the M5 does. Something to check out if you like pushing the car through tight turns and on ramps.

Are we being helpful?

I'd go B7, hands down, but judging from your past BMW M's, MB AMG's and Audi S', I'd say you'd be more happy in the M5 (from size and performance standpoints). Otherwise, I'd say the B7 would command more onlookers and road presence...

B7 no question!

Rarer
Bigger
Just as fast (10ths of seconds)
More "road presence"
White is the best color on these cars!

I'd go with a totally different choice. How about the Grand Coupe M6? That's going to be more expensive, but it's one bad a$$ ride. I drove the 650i Grand Coupe before ordering my F01 (750i), and it's a rocket ship. I didn't go with that because my daughter is still in a car seat (she's 5), and I'd probably end up getting tickets left and right.

If that's not enough to confuse you even more, then I'd say go with the M5. The B7 had its rear kicked by the S8 Audi, which is an embarrassment if you ask me. Check out the video on YouTube here:

The M6 GC is very rare and would be a fortune to lease. I am also considering the 650i GC as it is much cheeper to lease, but a different league. I am surprised how many of you recommend the Alpina…. As a driver's car, there is no comparison between the two imho - the M5 is a different league. However, not many cars have the presence of the B7 especially in white. I parked them next to each other and couldn't stop looking at it. The Alpina doesn't have the B&O and not even the top view cameras… But still it is very tempting… it is actually $20 less per month than the M5. The M5 is 110K MSRP and the Alpina is 130K… Need to decide today.

i retrofitted the top view and barely use it. I dont think its that necessary especially in the US as tight parking spaces are the exception rather than the rule.

2013 Model Year and no Top-View!? If you go B7, demand at least another $50 off or for them to retro fit Top-View for free.

Very important feature to minimize curb rash...

I retrofitted it also and use it all the time. One of my favorite retrofits. Just my experience with it.

Ory,
Sounds like you are leaning to the M5. Keep in mind, you are asking this question in the 7 forum. Your responses will be biased.

I'm biased but I'd go with the B7 as well. Rare car and very comfortable. We wanted the LWB so M5 wasn't really an option when we looked. Consider the tire and wheel protection package. A couple of other B7 owners I've talked to had some tire blowouts. Those 21" aren't cheap.

I really like this option too. Surprised they don't have the drivers assistance package on that B7.
