Half Engine Light - lack of power

I spent the last two hours searching and reading and I'm still not sure what's going on.

2007 335xi with Dinan stage 2, (no oil cooler), 90k miles, HPFP and injectors were replaced at 84K. I've only owned the car for two weeks and 1k miles. Last night during a bit of spirited driving (~5 miles) the half engine light comes on and I loose some power - the throw you in the back of your seat boost power. Was only a mile from home so went home and parked it thinking it was probably this "limp mode" everyone has suggested, however I never saw the oil temp climb above ~250, it usually runs around 235-240. Started it up this morning and light was off. After some warmup miles I tried getting on it and it still was lacking the hard pull. At this point the light came back on. I've repeated this a few times with the same results.

I have a code reader, but it is a cheap one that I don't believe pulls BMW codes - It shows no codes. Although, thinking out loud, I had turned the car off/on and the dash light was off when I tested. Either way, no codes. I can try tonight to get a code while still running.

From what I have read this is the DME1_DDE1 - Engine Problem! Loss of Power light. It appears to be caused by VANOS solenoids, although I haven't seen anyone describe the same loss of power because of this. HPFP issue, although it runs smooth and doesn't act like it is going die as others have suggested - just no strong pull. Which lead me to believe it could be turbo or wastegate related. I come from a background of BMW's but this is my first turbo experience and I'm pretty ignorant to the intricacies of their operations.

Any thoughts?

Re: Half Engine Light - lack of power

I had a similar experience a couple years ago. Felt like I was driving a non turboed car. Turned out to be a bad vacuum hose that was causing the boost leak.

Is is must-have, for DIY or the curious, wanting t'ghost the dealer, always prudent.
