F10 M5 Shift Knob in E9X M3

Looking on various forums, I've seen a few people install E46 ZHP shift knobs in their E46 and E90 M3s. Then, I saw that the F10 M5 shift knob, which is very similar, but comes with the built-in LED light, was being installed in various E46 M3s.

I bought the F10 M5 shift knob (which comes w/ the boot), but I unfortunately no longer have the time, tools or garage space to be a DIYer. So, I took it to a shop w/ a decent reputation today, but they told me that it couldn't be done in a way that looks clean.

I bought the part from GetBMWParts.com, and while they made the CYA statement of "it's not for your car", they did state that other customers have installed it in their M3s.

Has anyone here swapped out their shift knob for the F10 M5 one? If so, do you have pics, suggestions, etc.?

If you happen to be in LA, can anyone recommend a shop who can do a clean install w/o a ridiculous cost?

EDIT: I did find this thread: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=773929, but I was hoping to not get the little wrinkle on the bottom where the skirt bunches up.

Am I asking for too much?
