Why haven't I been notified of recall?

I purchased a new 2011 (leftover) in August of 2012. I have not received any notification of the battery cable recall.
Should I contact the dealer?

My car production is October 2011, I called BMWNA and there are no recalls for my vehicle.

I took my 07 in because the brake light turned red, when he pulled up the vehicle he said, Well we have a recall, we will take care of it too

if you take it in for some kind of service they will let you know if its recalled

Hondo

My 2011 was built in December of 2010. I looked up the vin on BMW's site and it showed I have the battery cable recall. I have not received a notice yet, but I am do for my last free oil change in 3000 miles so I will just wait and do it all at once.

Received an email from my dealer on Thursday that said my car contacted them and told them it needed an oil change and the battery recall done! The oil change I buy, but the car sending a recall notification I doubt. Any way I go in this morning and will pick up a new loaner that I can putts around in for the day since I took the day off from work.

If I was BMWNA and designing the service notification system, I would check the recall/service campaign database when the calls up and says to route service request through the dealer. Not far-fetched at all that the recall would pop up.

At the dealer getting recall done. The only time I step in a dealership. Free coffee, snacks and TV, too!

The 3-series battery connector recall is applicable for coupes and convertibles manufactured March 2007 through July 2011, sedans manufactured March 2007 through October 2011, and sports wagons manufactured March 2007 through June 2011.

You can determine your production month and year by going to http://realoem.com/bmw/select.do and entering the last seven digits of your VIN in the Serial Number field. After that, you should see the production date information at the bottom as "You Have Selected: MM/YYYY E9xN 328i," etc.

You can also check for recalls directly by going to http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...er/recall.aspx and entering the last seven digits of your VIN where indicated.

Cheers.

1zamboni,
5 model years is only a few?

As others suggested, use the recall link posted earlier and enter your vin, then you will know

Between you and hondo, I'd call BMW NA and have a serious talk with them about WHY you weren't notified about the recall. Enough time has passed...and BMW NA should have notified owner's by now. Fortunately, you're in this forum and are informed. Others may not be.

If it was a major recall I would have been upset, but since my dealer emailed me and I was not going to get it fixed until my next service. It's not like the cable connectors were going to fail right away. Maybe they take care of older models first?

Noted, but federal regs (NHTSA) require BMW NA to "notify owners via mail," with specifically designed recall letters (also specified by fed regs!)...not by their dealers via e-mail. Nevertheless, you were informed.

Agreed, hopefully this will be the only recall we get.

No, we need BMW NA to step up to the plate and recall earlier 3-series that are plagued with door lock actuator failures that are trapping passengers in their cars requiring them, the kids (and Granny) to crawl out of the windows to escape.

Complaints are ubiquitous in NHTSA's complaint database.

This is my "mission from God."

Why haven't I been notified of recall?

It's better to be proactive than reactive in this case

It won't hurt to go to your local dealer and share your piece of mind to them~

God drives a 3 series. I wonder if he gets pissed when he gets a recall.
