Mein Auto: 2013 M5 MONTE CARLO BLUE
2013 M5 vs. 2011 550 x drive stage 5 dinan

I was looking for some advice from current f 10 m5 owners or 550 x drive stage 4 or stage 5 dinan owners. I currently own a 2011 550 x drive M sport dinan stage 4 with 12,000 miles on it. Saturday I got a price from my local bmw dealer on a 2013 M5 monte carlo blue with black interior with drivers assist, executive, 20" wheels, and the usual options that come with the car. List price is $ 101,100.00, dealer qouted me $ 47,000.00 on a trade for my 550, with tax, title, and doc. Basically out the door. Near as I can tell he is allowing me $ 50,000.00 for my 550 and $ 95,400.00 for the M5 before taxes, basically 6 % of MSRP. I was just looking for some helpful advice on whether the M5 is worth approximately $ 25,000.00 more than the 550, thats comparing new car to new car or if the new M5 is worth $ 11,000.00 to $ 12,000.00 more than a stage 4/5 dinan 550 with 540 HP and 590 FT./LBS. of torque. I am very happy with the dinan 550 and for a 4500 lbs. sedan it is extremely fast. I know people are getting 0-60 times at around 4.0 seconds and low 12's for the quarter mile. I do not track the car, but do love BMW'S and do some spirited driving on local backroads. Just looking for some constructive advice from current M5 owners that have experience with both vehicles. The other factor that is making it hard is the interest rate I was qouted to finance the vehicle for 36 to 72 months is almost zero percent. Any first hand advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I love driving this car. It has more features by far than the 550 has. I got Black Merino Full Leather with B&O sound (totally incredible system), 20" sport rims, Exec Package, Amazonite Silver paint (Individual Color), Driver Assist Package and black kidney grills. I traded in my M sport 2010 535i with Dinan Stage 2. It had 380 hp and a sport button but the M5 is so much more car than my E60. It's a full up luxury car that can blow a lot of race cars right off the road. It can ride like a luxury car or be set for sportiness. Based on your MSRP, you aren't getting Full Leather and I think that is a must have on this car. It's $3500 extra but makes a difference IMO. I am still in the break in period so haven't gotten to really push it yet but I can tell it's going to fly.

I bought my wife a fully loaded 2013 X5 5.0i with M Sport and M performance (445 hp) in February. It was $82k sticker with premium seating. It has full leather but it's Dakota Leather and not Merino, big difference. It has the premium sound system but not B&O, it's nice but not as nice. Yes I think the extra money is worth the differences. I am including as the last two pictures the M5 passenger seat vs. the X5 passenger seat. You should be able to see the difference in the quality of the leather. Both seats are perforated, both are active and ventilated but the Merino Leather is higher quality and smooth.

2013 M5 vs. 2011 550 x drive stage 5 dinan

The M5 comes with Merino leather, the $3500 is for the extended leather option which covers more trim with leather. I am hoping to pick up an M5 by the end of the month and I am leaving out the extended leather. I am opting for B&O because the sound is a vast improvement over the standard speakers.

The $3500 is for full leather which covers more surfaces. The extended leather is less leather. But you got the idea right. You will still enjoy the car, I just wanted to pay the extra to get the full leather because I like it. The B&O is a great sound system. The Nav system is excellent as well. It has very useful traffic info and you can send it destinations from Google maps using the link feature. I think that is part of BMW Assist. I also bought the Concierge package for $199 which you can call and they can send the car a destination while you are driving. The Google maps feature is good but it doesn't send the whole map, just the destination.
