GT Model Changes 13->14

Does anybody know about what improvements are on deck for the 2014 5-series Gran Turismo?

I am thinking about picking up a 535 GT for European Delivery early this August. I just found out from my client advisor that while BMW is taking orders for 2014 cars, they will not be available until late August. I am thinking about going through with it and buying a 2013, but I want to know first what I'm giving up.

Others have reported that the GT changes won't show up until around January...now, the advisor may be right or he may be lumping it with the 5-series sedan, which could easily be different. The GT is not made in the 5-series factory, but in the 7-series factory, so the timelines may differ.

According to the CA, the 2014 GTs are now in the system and available to configure.

I question that. My CA knows to call me when they are available. If they are available, then he or she would be able to tell you the answer to your question.

Here's what one online mag is saying:

lex, no kidding. All of it from those with no technical background, no understanding of design intent, no concept of basic physics and never having sat in, or driven, one and most certainly unable to afford one, new or used, ever. A cacaphony of pure ignorance.

My apologies for "beating around the bush".

I spoke to Jon (forum sponsor) on Friday and the '14 5series of all kinds were not yet available. I've heard of dealers taking orders and playing games, but as far as I'm aware and have seen there not in the system yet.

SOP is listed as 7/14 by BMW so I'm not sure why you think changes wouldn't show up until Jan.

I'm really surprised we haven't heard more about the 2014 5-er GT by now. I'm very interested in the 2014, as I'd love to buy a GT, but probably won't be in a position to do so until the 2014 models come out. Some other models have 2014 info out.

Perhaps the 2014 F07 just won't really change much from the 2013?

2014 GT LCI information is available now. I just stumbled upon all the photos at this blog:

http://www.bmwblog.com/2013/05/19/bm...orld-premiere/

Quite a few changes, but mostly minor ones. I think I like it.

My CA tells me that production will start in late August or early September. That really bums me out because I am buying via ED and I will be in Europe in early August. I really hate missing the iDrive Touch.

The Jatoba (brown) model in the BMW photos has both tailpipes on the left side. Perhaps that's the diesel?

Rats. They only fixed the cup holders in the sedan and station wagon.

Changes at the rear look good. IMO they should've 'thinned out' the grille at the front but I know that's a design statement (the 7er's are huuuge) I still love this car, and I like the new look of the rear end, definitely toned down...reminds me of the change they did with the previous gen 7 series (the one that coined the term 'Bangle Butt') and how they toned it down on the LCI. Probably order another one when my lease expires next year... ahhh only if they made a ///M5 GT....

Thanks for the info.

I just found out that the availability date for the 2014 models is September 1. I was planning to pick up a 2014 for European Delivery, but we arrive in early August and head home on August 20. I can't believe I am missing the new model year by 10 days! Does anyone have ideas or experience on how I might should deal with this?

Looks like the rear seat luxury package is gone along with the 4 zone climate. Wonder why BMW removed it for the LCI, it doesn't look like the rear seats were changed.

September 1st may be the first they are available in the USA, but that includes the shipping time...so, you might be able to pick one up the end of August. Hassle is, often, the first cars off the assembly line have already been ordered for the dealer pipeline, and a new order may have to wait.

Thanks. So they put an F10 trunk lid on it. That's all I see styling wise.

The GT gets paddle shifters if you spring for one of the lines.

I created a compare of two BMW renders to make it easier to see but the Bimmerfest upload isn't working today. I think there are some changes in the headlights. The orange reflectors on the front fender are gone. The front apron is different. The wheel selection is different.

While they specifically mention in the PR that the cupholders were fixed in the sedan and station wagon, they are not in the GT. Paddle shifters are now available. The trunk reportedly closes hands free but no confirmation that feature will be enabled in the US. Many 2013 exterior colors are gone. Nappa Cinnamon is gone and you can only get it on the base model. Gray interior is gone across the board replaced with white.

Are you sure about this?

The GT ordering guide didn't have any reference to paddle shifter or SAT (Sport Auto Transmission) option.

It's in the BMW GT Facelift video.

I assume the 255 Sport Leather steering wheel in the order guide gets you the paddles,

I'm guessing the car in the video is a European model. The pre LCI 5GT never had paddle shifter as an option, and I'm guessing it's the same for post LCI.

I'm also very interested in this as I really want paddle shifter.
