Want a little more umph!

I have a 2012 335i X drive with Dinan Stage 2 flash, Dinan exhaust system, Dinan Stage 2 suspension riding on 18" Enkei PF-01s shod with Bridgestone 355/18s. Car runs really well and handles beautifully but I'd like 25-30 more HP. Dinan says it's got 361HP. The next Dinan upgrade to Stage 3 requires the Dinan Intercooler at $1500 plus $500 to upgrade my flash to Stage 3. That's a lot of bucks for 375 HP. Anybody got any ideas?

Yeah our forum is great but bimmerboost as the title says is all about how to build horsepower. Litterally thousands of Cobb A/P maps, JB-4's etc. Different turbo designs and a considerable knowledge about building more horsepower.
Suggest you visit that site for guys totally focused on building horsepower and lowering ET's...
You will learn a considerable amount of information about your engine and what works and what doesn't...

Well, would you settle for a lot more?

460 hp easy w/JB4 Meth. Sell that Dinan stuff - reinvest in something fast.

Oh, and that's at the wheel, not the crank like Dinan. Don't gotta buy no high priced Dinan FMIC neither.

I really like my Dinan stuff. I really didn't like my 2011 M3 that's why I bought my 335i X. I really don't want 400+ HP. I think 380/385 would be just about right.

OP,
I've been in your shoes and ended my journey with the stage 3. If you can afford it, it's all highly worth it. Dinan S3 flash, FMIC, OC, CAI, and I would do it all over again! I can eat M3s all day on the streets and enjoy a DD on my way home.

Dinan Stage 3

I guess I can afford the Stage 3 but you have to buy a bigger intercooler as well. With having the Stage 2, the Stage 3 only costs $500 but the damned intercooler costs $1500 plus labor which is about $500-600. So, as you can see, the total is about $2500. I'm not sure I want it that bad!

FMIC= Front Mounted InterCooler
OC= Oil Cooler
CAI= Cold Air Intake

My appreciation is that if you have the Stage 3, FMIC, CAI, and Exhaust it is 413hp (at the crank as so many of the JB4 guys like to point out). 1 shy of the 414 of the M3, but lighter. (3704 lbs v. 3571lbs )

And, as Cal likes to point out, you really need an LSD to put that power to the pavement. Hopefully, that is my next mod.

LSD=Limited Slip Differential

Deep six that. JB4 Meth just shy of $1k. DIY install no prob at all. Better.

But sell your Dinan tune? Good luck! Did they stick it to ya? What's that cost again???

Thanks

Thanks for the info Lark!
Cal Waterboy - No Dinan does great work and I don't feel they "stuck it to me" at all. Everything is under warranty!!
I do really object to them requiring an additional $6000 required for the addition of a Stager 3. I feel that if a customer has spent as much as I have they should cut said customer a much better deal.

You can work the figures.

1) Wait for the online sales Dinan offers from time to time, I believe when I bought my stuff they were doing 20% off.
2) Work with your dealer, mine offered me 15% off on the install.

So, can a Dinan tune be sold, or what?

$6k on top of what above poster has already spent gave me a thrill, and nose bleed....Monsieur Dinan knows how to separate a customer from his money!

Here's some helpful advice: Compare prices

$2499.00 - Stage 3, software only
$1599.00 - Exhaust - 2 mufflers; 2 tips
$1599.00 - FMIC
$3299.00 - 'Racing Coilover' suspension - competitor to Ground Control Street/School but without M3 rear camber arms - wait - are those front springs progressive?
$799.00 - Front Strut Tower Brace - this is a hoot! M3 brace looks identical - $250 - wait, M3 brace includes caps

$2999.00 - Limited Slip Diff - got my Wavetrac for, what, $1100....

$12,794.00 TOTAL --- or $11,195.00 without mufflers

Wait....wait....are those prices installed, or would there be a labor charge too? Not in my case....still, for significantly less performance, Dinan delivers parts for just shy of $4k more than I paid.

My cost includes meth, making much more power than Dinan Stage 3.

Oh, and my cost included rear toe arms.

Oops! Forgot to mention, my cost included rear subframe bushings; M3 front & rear sways.

Ooooops! Forgot to mention, my cost included all M3 arms front & rear. With Delrin, a wonderment!

Dinan?

To wit: A rip. I have no patience.

No, it can't be sold.

While Dinan is undeniably more expensive than your set up, I didn't pay anywhere near those prices you are quoting.

And I have no idea how you got a Wavetrac installed for $1100 dollars. I have been investigating getting either Wavetrac or Quaife in Houston and it is impossible to get it, installed, for less than about $3200. If I could get it for $1100 I would have it done already.

Prices direct from Dinan's web site, yesterday.

Bought the Wavetrac down in LA for $1100, parts cost only. Paid $600 for a competent install, Sonic Motorsports south o'San Francisco. But, can DIY - scroll down. Not having done it before, I lacked the time + tools.

Current low prices might be seen here or here.

That is for the welded ring kit, not the Wavetrac. If you have the welded ring differential you have to buy this kit for the install.

Some do....E93's are bolted. I'll find my reference on that....seem to remember early E9x were welded, requiring xtra work; others not.

But! Saw 335i Wavetrac for $1220 just below, not half bad. Prices may have gone up since I purchased.

I understand those are the retail prices from the website. Anybody who pays retail price is a poor negotiator.

The problem is that in the 4th largest city in the country I have been unable to find a reputable shop that will install the LSD. I called Wavetrac and Quaife for qualified installers in Houston and the response was they were not aware of any. Certainly none that were authorized by Wavetrac or Quaife. I may have to drive to San Fran for an install. Cal, can I borrow your 335 while it is being installed?

Fortunately, I don't have the welded ring either, so I don't have that extra expense.
