Doesn't have anywhere near the wow factor (for me at least) as the W221 when it came out. This thing is bland and bubbly...no other way to describe it.

I still miss my old S550, and I was looking forward to this debut - guess ill keep my car a bit longer.

Must say BMW was smart to announce its facelifted 5 Series and M5 and M6 Competition packages shortly after Mercedes' W222 S-Class unveiling, not to mention the fact that virtually undisguised 2 Series photos have magically surfaced as well. Different model classes aside, gave people just enough time to go gaga over the new S and then placed its unveiling in the 'lesser new' news category...

Interior and some of the tech are really cool but that exterior is not my favorite by a long shot.

The interior looks very nice to me. I am "meh" on the exterior.

Im new to the luxury car market so maybe its just me, but the video showing the guy fiddling with everything all the time does not seem like its a buying plus. Its almost as if the new Mercedes is more of a chauffer car. I dont want to have to sit in my car and turn 10 buttons on and off, dim lights while Im driving, turn on the smell application, turn on this and that..aghhhhh. I hope the BMW I ordered rememebers most of my settings everytime I get into it (?). Plus, its seems like they have priced themselves out of the midrange luxury vehicle (assuming the new merc will be more expensive that the older one). BMW should capitalize on this and grab the market share of people who dont want or have the money to spend 120k on a base model car. It appears that with enough add-ons, this car could easily get into the 150-170 range. Might as well upgrade and go RR or Bently at that point.

I love technology and like distinct intuitive button controls, but that can go overboard with a sea of buttons (aka Porsche) or distractive, accident-provoking touch screen-only controls (aka Cadillac).

I prefer the physical layout of the buttons in the MB and that more settings are selectable via GUI (and remembered) without the need of coding.

Don't need a trackpad though...

Based on photos alone, the W222 may be the first S-Class since the W140 with real road presence. There, I said it...

Based on pricing released for the UK, and after conversion to US dollars, etc., it seems the new W222 base MSRP's are going to be between $250 and $1,900 more expensive than the outgoing W221, depending on model. Not bad!

I wouldn't convert it, they might adjust to each market. We're still Mercedes' #1 market, the PRC is closing quickly, within a year or two it's projected to surpass us. But I'd see how much it was increased from '13 to '14 in the UK market. Converting is messy when it comes to car pricing.

Car looks amazing! I will definitely be looking to trade in for this in the next two yrs. I never purchase a car in its first year of new design.

I don't like comparisons with Asian cars because to some extend, it's an insult to european cars...
The majority of time, they are ripping off German designs and integrate into their cars. Given that their development cycle is so much shorter than BMW, Mercedes, Audi, they can rip off a design and be first to market...

Good point, I realized the irony of my reaction too. The reason I think of it as Korean is because they have been so good at ripping off MB.

But, its the job of the luxury manufacturers to stay ahead of the pack. If they can't come out with designs faster, they need to have different and more difficult to copy stampings and details. BMW, Audi, Jaguar they are not doomed to look like Korean designs to me.

Nice day in Chicago, saw lots of new SL and CLS. They are awesome cars, but not handsome at all. The CLS was a favorite design when it came out, but it really is kinda a mess now.
