Pros and Cons of M Sport

Can someone help me think through the pros and cons of getting the M sport package?

Caveat: we've only ordered, so we don't own it yet.

Pros: a big fat grin on your face every time you drive 'er.
Con: A ride harsher than your grandparents want. But iDrive may allow you to compensate for much of that.
Con: $

If you don't get the grin in a test drive of an M Sport, save your money.

I thought it would be a better ride. I drove a vehicle with the sport seats and found them to be much more comfortable. It may have had the Sport Activity package vs. M Sport, but those both have the same seats and wheels, right? Is the M Sport "standard suspension" different from the suspension in a non-M Sport?

Well said. could not agree more. if you can afford it, M sport really transform the car esp with the Dynamic Handling pack. its' like getting 3 cars in one.

All x3's have the same suspension and dampers regardless of model or engine size.

The exception is if you purchase the specific dynamic dampers.

Exactly. M Sport is primarily a cosmetic package on the X3.

In Canada the m-sport is the only way to get the good seats, steering wheel, paddle shifters too.

Worth the price IMO

M Sport PKG just looks better IMO. Interior upgrades really sets it off from the Sport Line PKG . Its an extra $3,850 option, but I just had to have it. The M Sport exclusive Estoril Blue II paint was a big help too; just look at it when the sun hits it! Beautiful...

This is my favorite F30 configuration - I work with someone that has an Estoril Blue II F30 M-sport and it is even better looking in person!

The steering wheel on the X3 35i is pretty similar to the M-sport steering wheel. Look wise, the black plastic molding actually looks better on some colors. Thats leave us with the sport seats and the rims, are they worth $3000? probably not.

That was our recent decision as well. The main reason we considered the M was the Mrs didn't think she likes the black body accents on the non M and she was stuck on Alpine White. When she saw it in person she actually liked the non M appearance better. Thought too much white on the M. I didn't care and thought the M would be "cool" but if I wanted more sporty we would have bought a non X vehicle anyway. Also, I do not feel there is any real positive resale value to having the M. Many will buy the best condition 5 or 6 year old vehicle whether or not it has the M package in my opinion.

The combination of the 35i engine, M Sport, and dynamic handling in tandem is transforming. So equipped, the X3 is incredibly engaging, and comes close to being the perfect all around vehicle that is not only fast, comfortable, utilitarian, but also able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

The Sport Seats!! I think the non-sport seat feels like I am sitting on a stool (I am 6'3"). I would pay extra just for the seats.

For me the sports seas were much better than regular ones (my wife who is the primary, didn't care much either way), so it was good that 2013s had the sports package. Which was much less than M-sport. And I wanted the roof rails and the black headliner so it worked out pretty well.

Pros and Cons of M Sport

I was on a budget with my vehicle. As a result I chose the $3000 m sport package over other options people find more useful such as navigation or heads up display.
Love the wheels, steering wheel, body kit and m logo. Also sports seat are a deal breaker for me so it was a must.

If I could afford it I would get a fully loaded car so I didn't have to sit there and think "oh I wish I would have got so and so option".

Figure out what you can or cannot live without.

Pros and Cons of M Sport

Lets put it this way,

M-sport new Bumper =1k, rear bumper 800?,side skirts plus fenders 900?, steering heated wheel 900? Plus rims 1200. All equates to $ 4800 not including labor if you buy all this separately.

So the 3000 as listed in BMW site is like a bargain to me but you are forced to get the Premium pkg.

True but all packages are good deals than if you purchase separately.

You need to subtract the cost of the non-MSport parts

well said - putting the car into sport mode and using the padle shifters does bring a smile to your face. the subtle m badges also assist with leaping tall buildings in a single bound!

Get a professional opinion re suspension differences between stock and m-sport. Have service put them both on lifts if you can't tell from the side. Also check bmw parts sites.

Why go to that trouble? An M-Sport X3 comes with standard suspension—unless you also pay for the Dynamic Handling Package.

It really depends on the MY because BMW changes or shuffle and adds stuffs.

At MY 13, I got the Msport and added the sport suspension which comes with the pkg unless u say you want the normal ones.
