2006 330i potential purchase.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 330i with 65k miles in the Chicago area. He is a second owner who bought it CPO in June 08 and has put all of 25k miles on it since. It was garage kept and he has excellent service records.

Thing done this year:
Valve cover gasket
Actuator gasket
electrical gasket (?)
New Battery
New Water Pump (!)
New thermostat

Other:
Brake Fluid flushed in May 2011
Control Unit replaced and programmed in 2010 by dealership
Replaced steering column in 2010 by dealership
Replaced left mirror in 2010 by dealership

I'm getting this (possibly today) at $15,250.

I see that the fuel pump hasn't been replaced, but at least the water pump has done already (and recently.) Any other things I should be on the lookout for? Also, price ok? I think I'm paying a little too much, but he is driving it out to me from north Chicago.

The 3.0 non-turbo motors do not have fuel pump issues the turbo 335's did. The brake fluid is due for a changed again (every 2yrs). Good luck with it I hope it works out

Thanks. I thought the fuel pump was this one too. Good thing it's not!

Deal fell through for today, but we may be able to get it done tomorrow. (My infinite wisdom forgot to remind me to sign the loan agreement with my bank, bah!)

Premium, Steptronic (that's standard for auto isn't it?) Moonroof, heated seats, xenon, Logic7 sound. It also says it's Launch Supply, which I assume it means it's first run batch.

I don't see sport package listed though. I can live without it.

Is sport suspension standard on the 330? Did you get the sport seats?

No it's not, and I regret every single day for not having it on my 330xi. It's a massive difference, though it doesn't sound like it. The steering wheel and seats are huge improvements, and on a non-xDrive car like that, you'll also get a beastly sport suspension (no suspension changes with sport package on xDrive obviously).

Looks like a good deal to me...a lot of things that you'd have had to replace, has already been done. I agree about doing the brake fluid flush and possibly checking to see what else needs flushing. Inspect brakes/tires.

There are great spring or coil-over packages for the suspension. You may be able to find seats to swap out too.

I might look into that if I don't like the suspension. Provided I buy it...I can't see me not buying it BUT there is a manual (with sport AND aluminum trim) in the area for $14,800. But it has 89k miles...

Negotiate that sucker down to 14, and drive off. Get a pre-purchase inspection at a bmw independent shop IMO, very important.

As far as your other question, for suspension, you have some great choices. Koni FSD Yellow shocks and sport springs, as well as Bilstein Sport shocks and springs. Can also get ///M sway bars and bushings.

If you hit up ebay or craigslist in your area, you could probably find someone parting out a set of sport seats, and a steering wheel is very easy to find, you just have to buy a new airbag (sport and normal airbags are different). Can recuperate cost by selling your wheel + airbag.

I can't get him down to $14k. He dropped it down for me already. He spent the $2k in work on the valve cover gasket and the water pump so that's work I don't have to do do that. Even if I did the work myself, it's saving me a ton of trouble.

Is that the one in your original post? If he won't go down to 14, offer 13.5 as final offer and leave him your #.

We're talking about the manual one with aluminum right? He spent 2K on waterpump + valve cover gasket? Assumed then that he didn't do it, but is pricing it per what he paid at a dealer/independent shop.

It does save you a ton of trouble. I'd personally look both over and get them inspected, if both check out well, go with the sport + manual if you plan on really keeping the car for a while. You'll honestly regret not getting the great seats and steering wheel, and the excellent manual transmission.

I'm sorry guys, I was talking about the auto with 65k. It's 15,250 firm.

The manual one, I counter offered that if they throw in the full on used warranty, I'll buy at 14,800. They haven't responded.

Ah I see, well yeah then, 15 is a pretty decent price for that mileage, at least in my area (New England). Do either of the two cars have the Navigation package? Does the Manual have Premium package?

I don't think it has premium. It says it has synthetic seats...

The Manual car has non-leather seats? Best way to tell is by looking at the door panel on driver/passenger side. If it has a stitch line running across, it's got real leather. Also if it has a stitch line on the upper back of the front seats, that's another way to tell. Meh, less work for you IMO, more durability, and great bolstering. It's a toss-up, 50/50 if real leather is actually worth it to you or not.

Well I just got the manual 330i to 14,400. For $850 more, i get about 25k less miles and lose manual. Looking at that manual on their actual page, I don't think it even has sport package even though the autotrader ad says it does...I think I'm getting the auto. Solid records and he's bringing it half-way to me.

I am really paranoid about people swooping in on these deals before I get a chance to buy one! There was one at Fletcher Audi in Chicago and that thing was listed for a day and a half and it was gone! THAT was the one I wanted!

Here's the McGrath one: http://mcgrathaudi.com/Glenview-Chic...-Car/17889760/ Now looking at it, it doesn't have the sport package. One of the ads on other sites where it's posted says it has it, which is why I still thought it had it...

The pvt sale one, which I am rather settled on doesn't say much. It was in the Carfax report and conversations with the owner that won it over. He has EXCELLENT records for the vehicle too.

Here's the text from it:

"Basics:
+ Mileage: 64,811
+ Fuel: Gasoline
+ Body Style: Sedan, 4 door
+ Engine: 6-cylinder
+ Transmission: Automatic
+ Drivetrain: RWD
+ Brakes: Anti-Lock, ABS
+ Seats: Power

Options:
+ Exterior: Graphite Metallic Paint
+ Interior: Grey Leather Seats
+ Logic 7 Sound System w/ CD Player
+ Heated, Memory Seats
+ Remote Keyless Entry
+ Illuminated Entry
+ High Intensity Headlights

Graphite Metallic exterior with gray leather interior. Very clean, garage kept, non-smoker owner. Premium Package with heated front seats, xenon headlights, and Logic 7 sound system. New battery, floor mats, and recently completed maintenance."

That car does have the premium package, including leather seats. The leather looks to be in quite good condition. It also has folding rear seat backs, which is very useful.

Yeah, it says premium, but in the listing it also said synthetic seats. I was confused. Perhaps they don't even know that...

They don't. Premium includes leather and I can tell you from the photos the seats are leather.

I think I'm still going to pass at that price. I don't like the mileage and they are unwilling to track down service records.
