I could not justify the expense of coilover parts and install. I'm not going to "track the wagon", (LOL) just looking to reduce body roll when cornering (which is sometimes done a bit fast enjoying my Dinan S2 s/w)

The RD Sport bars are pretty dang good, I have ridden in cars with them - they DO make a difference. I wold also suggest looking on Ebay for an Ultra Racing strut tower bar, it's less than $200 shipped and definitely makes the front end feel more planted. Ultra Racing actually makes a variety of bars that stiffen up the chassis of the E60 for not a lot of money.

I'd still have mine if it fit over the V8 engine

The only thing I didn't like about the Cusco was the shiny polished crossbar so I powdercoated it satin black and left the blue mounts.

LOL, I agree SOOOOOO much!!!! Unfortunately they don't make one specifically for the v8, I only found 6 cyl versions. I really like the feel (there's that word again, lol) of the strut tower brace in the front too. The front end definitely feels more planted with one and you won't have the stock brace get loose when you have one. Another benefit is it takes care of the windshield/dash creaking you get when you are on coilovers.

Hahahaha, yeah that damn word. Anyways I know what you mean. Once I installed it did seem to tighten up the front and all creaking and slight noises up front went away. I think I might go with a rear one next, probably the UR one since I don't want to spend $600 for the Dinan one.

I took a quick look under my hood b4 I ordered the STB. It's tight under there.

Does the STB fit without modification? The bars that connect to the rear cowl route right over the strut towers. Can you snap a pic to show the clearance?

Are you looking for pics of the strut tower clearance or the under hood clearance? The strut tower clearance should be no problem, the Ultra Racing STB bolts to the top of the shock and where the stock STB bolts, using the stock hardware. The under hood clearance pics will not be possible, since the hood has to be closed for an accurate shot. However, trust me, it fits. I am sure NoQuarter can second that.

Thanks. A pic with the hood open would be cool. The clearance in regard to the bars that connect from the strut tower to the rear cowl. Does the brace go under or over those bars?

One of the bolts goes under the end of the stock strut brace, the stock one fits in there and there is more than enough thread on the bolt that you don't have to replace it. I would suggest getting a good, complete set of Torx bits if you don't already have one (you own a BMW and Torx bits are EVERYWHERE, so a good set is worth having anyway).

I think the best way to describe the Ultra Racing brace is that it uses the stock brace and the top of the strut to triangulate the front end to make it stiffer. I will see if I can find an under hood shot of my old 530 and post it here.

It is a tight fit. Here's the cusco one in my car. It practically sits right on top of the stock v brace. Click image for larger version

No. When I first installed it there was a couple of millimeter gap. Now that i have had it for a little the gap has gotten a little bigger. Must be all the 60 mph corning I've been doing.

Thanks for the pics.

Ok, so the UR STB mounts under the V brace, has 2 mounting points(one it shares with the STB), and cost $140.

The Cusco mounts over the V brace, has 3 mounting points, and cost about $220.

Tough choice.

Correct, the UR STB attaches under the V brace and on the top of the strut. It is held securely by the stock bolts.
