2007 BMW 328i Coupe -- need some bimmer advice

Hello folks,

I'm new to this forum, and was hoping if I could get some advice regarding a potential 2007 328i Coupe purchase. The car is owned by a private buyer and has around 53000 miles on it. No sport packages.

1. Does anybody have any experience with this car?
2. How many miles can this BMW go (assuming: well taken care of)
3. I will get a pre-buyers inspection test done -- is there anything in particular I should look for?
4. What would be a good price range for this car with mostly standard features (I understand this is tough to do, but I just want to make sure I don't get ripped off here)
5. Any other insights regarding this car?

Appreciate all the time & effort for helping me with this process.

Kind regards,

Jon

Well Jon, more info might be good, but here goes:

1. You mean with 328i in general, or that car in particular? Answer: Yes and no....
2. As many as you want, repairs being generally available.
3. Look for an experienced BMW mech to do the inspection - he'll fill you in better than we.
4. Mostly? Hey, forum advice >might< be less reliable than checking local prices in the usual used car venues.
5. Recommend you delay your buy a month or two to read forum posts. You'll get the gist.

How can I tell whether a 07 328i Coupe has all 3 packages (Sports, Cold weather & Premium)?

I am considering to buy one with 56K miles for $17500 for what I know from the description it includes: new Summer Tires, heated Auto dimming rear/side mirrors, rain sensing wipers, premium Logic7 stero with ipod jack, Push button start, Nav, bluetooth, power leather seats (3 way heat)

Could anybody give me some insights regarding this package? This is the first time I will be buying a BMW above 10k and want to make sure I don't get ripped off.

Appreciate the help.

Kind regards,

Jon

How many miles will it go? I've got 169,300 on mine and intend many more. Enjoy the ride.

Sports Package: Wheels and seats are typically different in sports model
Cold weather: Heated seats mirros, etc..
Premium Package: Comfort access, cant remeber if nav is standard in premium package.. pretty sure it is.
Sounds to me like this car you speak of has premium and cold weather definitely. Not enough of a description to tell if it has sports pkg.
With all the options that are listed, doesn't seem to be too bad of a deal.. I would check local prices in your area (they vary from one location to another) and offer a grand to 2 grand lower if you're paying cash. People are quick to drop asking price if presented with benjis. most importantly, have it inspected before you buy! good luck

I believe the car has all 3 packages, clean carfax, 56k miles for $17500.

I understand its hard to indicate whether this is a good price or not, but do you think this is a reasonable/good offer for a 328i Coupe? This is relatively a big investment for me and just want to make sure this is a good deal. Thank you for all the help

Comfort Access and Navi/iDrive were both stand alone options in 2007 and not part of the Premium Package. If the front seats have adjustable Lumbar support (a circular control toward the front of the seat), then it has the Premium Package.

Its definitely reasonable if the car is in good shape. Its not a jaw dropping deal but youre also not getting hit over the head. I paid 16000 last year for my 07. it has pretty much all the options this car does. except mine is 4 door and it had 70k on the clock. Just an average price on a 3 series. If you like it and youve done your research, buy it! Just remember the ppi!

I'm still recommending NHTSA's complaint database as a source that potential buyer's can check for typical safety-related problems for older cars:

http://www.safercar.gov/Vehicle+Owners

Some component failure trends do show up, (door lock actuators for example on earlier model 3-series). NHTSA has stated that for every consumer that complains about an issue on their web site, about 40+ do not...so use that as a guideline.

If it's a private sale, a buyer can also check to see if all recalls have been conducted on the car by plugging in the make, model, year, or simply contacting BMW NA with the VIN number.

http://www.truedelta.com/ is also a good source of car information. I am a member of this site and I enter in repair information on my car.

Here's a sport package dead giveaway, ZSP being sport package:

Also steering wheels, ignore the markings for your question:

Cold weather wise, you'll be able to tell if there are seat heater buttons on the bottom of the center console. Should be one on the far left, one on the far right.

Premium package dead giveaways are the buttons on the rear view mirror, there should be 3 for garage door opener. There are obviously other things like lumbar support, but this is a way to tell.

As far as reliability, it's a 328i, so no turbos to deal with, and no high pressure fuel pump (this issue has basically been remedied already though). As long as you're willing to do 5-7k mile oil changes, flush fluids (diff/coolant etc.), swap out suspension bits (shocks, springs, etc.), brake parts (rotors, pads etc.), tires, the car can last 200k+ miles with EASE. Hell there's a member here that has over 300K miles and no real issues other than wear/tear of parts. It's like any other car really...they can be just as reliable. Parts can be pricey however, as a forewarning.
