Another member of this forum has had this issue, but I have not seen a resolution.

Edit: on the F10 forums, they seem to think the issue is related to the low pressure fuel pump (not the high pressure pump that caused all the problems with the N54 engines).

It's annoying when it happens to you, but I had a few issues with my 5 series right when I bought it and it went on to be very reliable.

I know it would be frustrating to have that happen to a new car ( I know I would be irritated), however Knowing that whatever it is, is most likely under warranty and therefor will cost you zero money ( and that you can get a loaner from the dealership while they work on it), would temper my anger somewhat.

If there is any way to not rent a car today, and get it to the dealer tomorrow and get the free loaner I would definately try that approach first, before being out car rental money.

Of course, if you dont have any other options, it really kinda sucks.

No reason to be out the car rental $. Dealer probably willing to pay that for you instead of getting you a loaner.

I was actually heading out to Big Bear to see family so car rental was a must.

I'll bring F30 in tomorrow morning and get loaner but really sucks.. Not the way I wanted to be introduced to BMW.

I've read other threads and it seems like most took a week or two to fix. If that's the case hate paying for a lease and not even having the car a entire month. Guess plus side is maybe can get a nice upgrade to drive for a couple weeks

I had this same message pop up a few times (first time after 120 miles) but after restarting the car things always went back to normal. Eventually BMW replaced the whole turbo. That was 300 miles ago, so far so good. Car is at 5600 right now.

I had this issue when my car was new... at 150 miles and on my way for a long weekend trip with my wife last Memorial Day weekend.... the transmission acted weird, and I got the 'drivetrain mailfunction' error, car went into limp mode.

I turned out to be a defective transmission, which was replaced.

You can read all about it if you search my name and "drivetrain malfunction" - I received alot of advice and it was about 50/50.... "demand a new car" vs "replace trans"

I chose to have them replace the trans... I did not want to wait another two months for a new one. In return, I got an extended warranty (100,000 miles, 6-yrs) and some goodies. And I am pretty famous at the dealership for a new BMW customer ([prior cars were Infiniti and Porsche).

Car is now a year old, 12,500 miles, and exactly 0 issues since - car is flawless.

Support from BMW and my dealership was outstanding.

I got the same message Friday with 960 miles on the odometer. Dealer tells me on Saturday that my car needs a Control Panel. Should have my car back tomorrow (Monday). I hope I don't see this message again!

I'm doing performance center delivery in a few weeks. I hope I don't get this on the ride home.

Just back home and depressing seeing my car knowing what's coming tomorrow.

I know we're a small % on forums with this message ( with all F30's on the road ) but wonder how big this issue is across the board? It also seems like not all are all the same issue as well reading everyone else's "fix"

Kinda scary if you ask me...

When I had this issue it took them a couple of days to run tests and review the results with BMW engineers in Germany .... so don't be surprised if the diagnosis takes a little longer than usual...

Ok, I didn't get my car back today. Dealer tells me that BMW engineers has all of the test results and they are analyzing the data. This doesn't sound good at all.

I hope you get a positive outcome.
The incident is disappointing...at least you did not get a stuck accelerator that ended up hurting somebody or destroying expensive stuff.
The fact is every manufactured item will have a flaw sooner or later; it's unfortunate that it happened to your car.
Wait then be ready to choose from a fixed drivetrain, a new drivetrain or new car. I would bet BMW will make it up to you one way or another.
Good luck.

SA told me today that I need a Vanos Intake and they are still waiting for BMW engineers. So, I am still waiting!

Ok, I got my car back. This what they did, replaced both Vanos central valves and bolts. Hopefully, this chapter is closed. However, not pleased with the customer service I received today. SA non-responsive!

Vanos valves and bolts!!!! One of my co-workers had the exact same thing happen to him with his car (328 x-drive sport line)!

Hope this doesn't turn into a very common problem like the HPFP that plagued the early 335s.
