Cool 2009 Engine Damage

Greetings fellow BMW owners. I had a bit of bad luck this weekend. We were leaving on a trip this weekend and were driving the BMW. I wanted to do a quick oil change before we left so I drove the car up on the race ramps and proceeded to change the oil with Mobil 1 full synthetic and a Fram filter. I usually use Bosch but they were out. The trip was around 250 miles and we left around 6:30 pm. About half way there the oil light symbol briefly flashed. I'd did not remain on and I figured that I might have short pored the last quart for the 6.9 required. About 30 min later the car started shuddering briefly the red oil light symbol briefly flashed and we pulled over to the side of the freeway and shut the car down. I wanted to get out and take a look but traffic was heavy and my wife was in no way letting me out of the car. Anyway we were towed 100 miles to the nearest BMW dealership. The next morning before noon I got the call from the service manager. He informed me that the BMW master mechanic felt that the engine had sustained major damage due to all. It 1 quart of oil being lost out the oil filter cap due to a pinched o ring. The estimate was @ 16k for a new engine. The whole time I was hoping that I would get lucky because of synthetic oil properties of clinging to parts as well as the car hadent lost all its oil. The group at the dealership were all wonderful during what for us was a very bad time. We wound up buying a new 328i. To be honest I was just beginning to give the wife the old sales pitch on why we should buy a new car anyway that very evening. Go figure I guess you really don't know what life will throw you.

Sorry for the bad luck. But I guess in the end it all worked out with a new 328 in the driveway!

Yup... the best way to get over a girl is to get with another girl. And of course by that I mean cars.

Sorry, and Congrats!

what they give you on trade? Was it all but 1 quart leaked or only 1 quart leaked out? 1 quart low wont kill it but if you got low oil light there's big problems
