Crossed 100k -- replace water pump before it goes?

Hi,

My 328xi wagon is at 101k. I drive about 80 miles a day, mostly highway. Just before 100k I had my head gasket replaced, along w/ the plugs (it was leaking badly). Otherwise, the car has been a winner and drives great ... but I rely on it! So, given that many people here have seen their water pumps go at or around this time -- preventative replacement or wait until it fails at the wrong time in heavy traffic!

Thanks!

I'm conflicted the same way. Though I'm sitting under 70k miles ('07 model).

First how long do you plan to keep the car? If that means another 100K miles my advice would be to buy the water pump and tstat and when that day comes you will have a very short downtime. You never said if you use an indy or the dealer but this is a rare event but one that will happen to you.
Having those two parts in the car will give you the option when the pump fails to replace both have minimal downtime and not be caught someplace waiting on parts even the dealership has this issue at times too.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why they fail so that is my suggestion...

2006 330xi 142k miles, 80 miles a day mostly highways on original water pump, battery, auto transmission fluid. At this time I figured I'll just ride it out...
DRL on all the time, now have to replace low beam light bulb and a right parking lamp bulb. Replaced shocks recently.

How much did it cost you on the head gasket replacement?

I use the dealer so, if I recall, around 1k. but also had plugs. (I use the dealer for convenience.)

>60k, you're both entering into "possibly-stranded somewhere" territory.
