Audible chimes when shutting off

Hello, I am a new owner of a 2004 BMW X3. Recently bought used. The past couple days, I get audible "chimes" when shutting off the motor and it doesn't stop until we get out of the car and shut the door. Also, the "lock" button does not work on the key ... only the "unlock"

Are these problems related? And can I purchase after market keys/fobs and program them myself?

Thanks in advance. These BMW's are tricky lol

In my 2005 X3 I will occasionally get the "chime" after removing my key. If I shut the car off then immediately pull the key it is as though the car does not sense that the key was removed. If I reinsert the key, turn it 2 clicks then back, then pull the key out after a second or two it will not chime. The only other time it has chimed is if the oil level sensor detects that I am getting low on oil, the oil light indicator will also glow yellow indicating that I'm just under a quart low. Just a thought but check your oil level, maybe it is low but the oil level indicator light is burnt out.

Thanks BDunn. I'll check the oil, although I did a week ago and it was fine. Appreciate the feedback!

One wildcard is that the E39 at least suffered over time with a worn ignition switch, leading to undesired operation. Are you sure the ignition is off when you exit the car?

No, you cannot add new keys to the immobiliser yourself. Buy them at BMW. Its expensive.

Yeah .... I know they are. Just sucks that it only came with one key. I am pretty sure the ignition is fully off..... EVERYTHING goes off. I think it is my door chime and just never noticed it before. Thanks Joy.
