Would you let one option hold you back from purchasing 550i?

Found the exact car I want, less top view camera....It comes with luxury seating pkg which I hadnt considered until I sat in one today. Would you let top view come between you and a new 550i? Only reason I am even asking is that I know top view from my current X5 but think I could live without it.

It entirely depends on how important that option is for you. It sounds like it's not very important. That said, I assume you're buying used? If not, why not just order exactly what you're looking for?

I feel like I could do without that option in particular. Certainly cool, but it might be a parlor trick that starts to feel normal after a while. You get the rear view camera anyway, right?

I bought my current E60 waaaay back in 2007 and went without Logic 7 sound because you don't find that many sport package RWD 5 series in Colorado. Then I spent years, dollars, and brain cells trying to claw some decent sound out of the standard audio, without complete success. I should have just waited and found another car with Logic.

I point this out because BMW has, on the 550, buried the Harmon Kardon stereo upgrade inside of the $4500 Executive Package, no other way to get it. Every other part of that package is meaningless to me, so the stereo upgrade is essentially a $4500 option on a 550 now. Ticks me off. It's still a stand alone option on the 535.

Get the car and retrofit it. Top view was not even offered in my model year 7. I have it now though via retrofit. Love it!

If you've never had that option, you'll never miss it. I still miss my large e38 sport and I never needed any camera to know where to put it.

My opinion is you will regret it. Go with what you want not with what is available. Don't cut yourself short only to regret it later. My 550 has that option and its awesome. Again only my two cents

I agree. It's an option where once you have it, you can't go without. I use it to gauge the parking dividers and has saved the bottom of my front bumper from scraps. It works great in parking spots especially when you have those next to you that don't park evenly between the lines.

I got it because my depth perception got totally borked by stroke in 06. It can be helpful, however If you've found a car I wouldn't really dissuade you from buying it. It's a nice feature though.

I used to think the same way about soft close doors. Had them for 10 years until I got this car and at first I REALLY missed them. Always leaving the door open, however, you grow to work around it after time.

To the OP, I personally don't think this would be a deal breaker (if you are getting an awesome deal or if you are just exhausted with car shopping and want a new car (been there). I would put something like m-sport or settling for a 535 when you really wanted a 550 in the category of don't compromise your original wants and needs. Top view camera doesn't fall into this category IMO.

We have the top view camera option on our X5 for 3 years now and probably used it a total of 3 times.

Indeed.

Personally, it would really depend on where in the process I was. If the car you are looking at is sitting right in front of you and they are offering you a really good deal, I'd probably take it (though the top down camera's are essential to my daily operation of the vehicle...I'm just a bad parker). If it was a car at another dealership, or in process...I'd just order one exactly the way I wanted it. What's an extra month or two?

I consider surround view to be a necessary option in a big sedan like F10. I use the feature almost everyday.

Yep....what's more is that I wasnt looking for the Luxury Seating pkg but had back surgery a few years back and think this would be quite a stellar feature including the better/softer leather. Seems like a good trade off if I am not ordering. My guy says the deal I have negotiated with him is only good for cars that are in stock or that he can redirect to him, no DX's. How long does an actual new order take?

New order takes about 6-8 weeks depending on dealer. Keep in mind that the LCI 2014 F10's will also start production around July/August i believe.
