Angry 2014 550i -- no manual transmission!

I was planning to replace my 2011 550i with the 2014, new motor and all. Now I find out that they will not offer the 6-speed manual in the 2014 550i! VERY bummed!! I called BMW today, and they confirmed it.

For anybody else with that combo (or looking to get there some day), call BMW USA and let them know you want it!!

Ha, that makes two of us. . In MY14, the only model that can be ordered with manual is 535i. No 528, no 550. Personally, I think BMW is trying to push high-end manual drivers into M5 category. Fully equipped 550 now lists for way north of $70k - not a huge market for those used in that price range.

Definitely call BMW and let them know how you feel. The only reason there is an F10 M5 with a manual is because of customer feedback.

No 6spd 550i!? Lame.

People are always surprised when they look in my car and see a 6spd. They usually say something like "I didn't know they made these in manual."

It's too bad. I feel like the 5 is becoming more and more the 7 series of yesterday. I've owned many 5 series going all the way back to the E12 and all but one had a manual transmission. That automatic E34 happened to be the one 5'er that gave me routine trouble and I also felt disconnected from the driving experience.

Oh my! This is AWD nightmare all over again ...

I often sat and considered what it would feel like to be a highly paid employee of, say, Italian Embassy in Moscow in 1985. Mind, I was born in some Mickey Mouse version of communism - not that I complain. You are paid a literal fortune if you exchange your ITL on the street. You are actually extremely well paid for Italian standards. So, you have all that money ... what do you do? Do you buy 2 metric tons of bad tasting butter? Do you buy 3 tractor trailers full of potatoes? What do you do?

I get that same Gedankenexperiment feeling when I contemplate this stories. I have $70,000 to spend on a car, but no car to buy that suits my LUST. Sure, I can buy a car that seats 5 comfortably, that gets up to speed very fast, that can get me in jail with speeds it can reach, that can fit 6 cases of water from Costco in the trunk ... but so did Volga or Lada.

Get it? Sad, really. And even more sad is the fact that the first suggestion in this thread is to call BMW and complain. WRONG ADDRESS. Call your clueless Congressperson and complain. Very loudly and make sure they understand they are OUT irrevocably if they don't push for revision of federalization rules. Complaining to BMW will not help you and even if it does, it will help you in THIS instance. Tomorrow you will have to restart complaining all over again to another car maker when your wife or son wants MT in another car.
