Excessive Voltage

Just heard from my mechanic. I've got all kinds of error codes popping up pointing to excessive voltage. It started this weekend with the "trifecta" of DSC, ABS and Brake lights all popping on at the same time. Then the tranny went into failsafe (limp) mode for time.

I'm told excessive voltage may be the root of the problem. The alternator is charging up as high as 17.5 volts.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Will it fry my control modules?

I repaired a fried ECU out of an Acura a number of years ago that had been subjected to over voltage such as you report. THe electronic on modern BMW's do not like voltage anomalies. If you fry any modules you'll certainly regret it in the wallet.
