Anyone install the new Lux H8 v4 AEs?

Waiting to see some v3 vs. v4 comparison pictures before I make the jump and grab a set.

Same here. I'm pretty happy with the V3's but if the V4's truly are significantly brighter, I may upgrade. I'd also like to know if this version is error-free when installed in an E60. V3's were touted as error-free initially, but at least on the E60, LUX later confirmed that they may trigger an occasional bulb out error. It used to happen to me several times a week and I ended up coding my car to disable angel eye bulb checks.

Installed Lux V4 bulbs

Here are some shots of the new v4's. It's hard to see all 4 rings at the same time in the pictures so it looks like only the inner rings are lit bright. There is also some glare showing no matter which angle I tried to shoot from.
I chose the 6900k setting, you can adjust it between 5000K - 12000k.
The install was very quick but I barely stuffed the box under the cover, the instructions say there is plenty of room but I didn't see it that way.

Thanks for posting the pics. It looks like they may be a little brighter than the V3's but it's hard to tell. How bright do they look in sunlight? Looks like it was cloudy and rather dark when you took the pictures.

It was gloomy all day today. But they seem pretty bright. They're a huge step up from the stock halogen rings. I didn't even try adjusting the color, I put it to 6900k and left it. If its sunny tomorrow I'll try to snap a pic.

Where did you buy them? Pictures on a sunny day would be fine!

Yea. Kind of hard to see in the pic.
Btw, you didn't have to take the bumper off for the pic, you can just blur out the license plate.

Here is another option to consider...

The Hellst XRT H8 uses the most recent CREE LED that are the brightest LED's that CREE manufactures for automotive applications. They come with a two year warranty and are almost half the price of the LUX V4 (LUX V4 $249/set vs. Hellst XRT @ $145/set). The color is 6500K which is the best match for the xenon headlights. Here are a few photos from satisfied customers. These are high quality LED H8 angel eye lights at a very reasonable price point...you don't need to pay more.

To order go to www.bimmereyes.com

Cheers,
Ross

Shemezelk,

Does your Lux AEs flicker as shown in the video below?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=4mD6e3FfdTQ

Seems like Kux v4 AEs flicker.. I wouldn't be too pleased with this "feature".

Hello ncBeemer,

Flickering on start-up is a LUX issue that is not experienced with the Hellst XRT's...just a nice clean light as soon as the lights are turned on.

Cheers,

Ross

Do these changes void your warranty as far as headlight repair?

No it should not void your warranty.

The flicker will happen with many LED AE bulbs due to the cold check your car performs when you start your car. You can code them out or just deal with the slight flicker at startup, which is no big deal IMO.

No, they don't flicker on start up. They do flicker a little bit when turning off but not as bad as the video you attached.

I agree, there is no room in the cavity for the box. Its bigger then the V3 and on the 1 series I cant find a place to put it where it doesn't trigger the adaptive light error. Spoke to lux and they were of no help as they said they haven't installed one on a 1 series. Really?

Replacing the H8 bulbs with an LED H8 bulb should not void the warranty for headlight repair as the BMW manual shows owners how to replace the H8 bulb as part of the maintenance of the vehicle. BMW doesn't make H8 bulbs so you would need to use an aftermarket H8 bulb in any case. Whether it is a halogen H8 or an LED H8 shouldn't make any difference. The LED H8 bulbs actually draw less power than the H8 halogen bulbs.

Cheers,

Ross

The Hellst XRT H8 LED power units will fit in the cavity of the 1 Series. They have extra long wires to allow them to be placed out of the way and the power units are not large.

Do the XRT H8's flicker on startup or shutdown like the LUX series in shutdown? Or throw codes?

I love the look of these, but I've not had much luck with durability of the aftermarket lights.

These are very well constructed and come with a two year warranty where we pick up all of the shipping costs to and from our facility so you are very well protected. They are the best value on the market and have the brightest CREE LED's installed in them with a total of 20 watts per bulb.
