Glove box won't open

Cna't open the glove box with the handle, I can open it with the key. Stealer says the electronic acutator stop working on glove box. $400+ to fix, not going to happen. Anyone have this problem? How did you resolve it.

Thanks for you assistance.

Fill your glovebox with water, then stick the car in the freezer, when the water turns to ice, it will expand and open your glovebox.

Now, in all seriousness, this is really not the sort of fix that you should involve a dealer for - there is not computer coding or anything like that. And, an independent could easily make this fix for you.

I don't know what your area is like, but around here, the dealers charge roughly three times the going rate at independent shops.

I have to say that stories like yours just illustrate the problem with BMWs. With dealers ripping off to that extent, you pretty much have to find a good independent or you are screwed.

Hope you find a fix. Sounds like a major annoyance.

Use the key to open the glove box.

Then use this post, written by a Dashingly Handsome Chap, and Gentleman Scholar of the Highest Accord, to repair the mechanism.

You rock, Fredric. That a ridiculously informative thread. Thanks for sharing it.

OP, good luck with the repair.
