Whats the best Fluid to use in Transmission & Differential

I want to replace the fluids in my 2001 325CI this weekend, but I cant find the recommended gear oil (wiki) in my local Autozone. From what I understand from reading, the Manual 5sp Transmission fluid (75W-80) is lighter than the Differential Fluid (75W-90). Correct? What brands are suitable? And does it have to be synthetic? If so, is any synthetic gear oil ok to use?

I did notice Royal Purple brand is twice as much as the Mobile Synthetic brand.

I never thought I'd be so high stressed picking out fluid!!

E46 M3 fluids are a whole heap different than those for a 325i. I would ask in the e46 forum. The M3 has LSD and uses 75W140 and also needs an additive. I think the 325 needs 75W90 in the diff, but you need to check.
