Pharding Just ordered a 2014 LCI 550i

I just ordered BMW Number Eight. I will pick my 550i in Munich on Friday, August 9 doing BMW European Delivery. This will be BMW European Delivery No. 6 for me.

This is what I ordered:

2014 550i Sedan, 445 hp
M-Sport with High Performance Tires, not All Season Tires
Jet Black
Anthracite Wood Trim
Mocha Nappa Leather with Black Leather Dashboard
Cold Weather Package
Driver Assistance Plus
Active Cruise Control with Stop and Go
Executive Package, including HUD, Power Tailgate, Comfort Access, Self-close Doors, Ceramic Controls, Sat Radio, Harmon Kardon Radio, Instrument Cluster with Extended Contents
Sport Automatic Transmission with Launch control, NAV, and Multi-contour seats are standard

Dealer: Elmhurst BMW, an absolutely superb dealership in all respects. Superb sales experience, great service department, and great pricing. Clearly the best in the Chicago area.
Client Advisor: Josh Douglas, who great to work with and is extremely knowledgeable of BMW European Delivery. This was my third BMW with him. He helped get me a great price.

The only thing that I did not appreciate about the experience is the way that BMW packaged the options and the option choices. It is confusing muddle of packages and options. I have had Head Up Display on 4 previous BMW's and I like it a lot. This is the first time that BMW did not offer it as a stand alone option. To get it I had to purchase the $4,300 Executive Package. It is disgusting to get that shoved down my throat. Furthermore one saves $25 by getting the package if you add up the value of the options. Outside of that I am excited about the 2014 LCI 550i and we look forward to picking it up in Munich.

I almost went with 535d. However projecting the residual values and with the modest bump from a fully optioned 535d to a 550i, the 550i made the most sense. If the residual value on the 535d is the same as the 550i I made change my order to get 535d. I'll have a better idea at the beginning of July about the residual values.

Congrats! I remember you were a great resource when I was ordering my 2011 550 a few years ago. I'm debating between putting an order in now or waiting a few years for the new model. I want a V8 and I'm a little worried that might go away with the 2017 model, especially since 2017-2025 is when the new fuel restrictions set in. I have the same opinion about forcing you to get the exec package, as I would rather pick and choose my own configuration.

Great combo! Good choice with RWD, even in Chicago it's the way to go.

U did leather dash. Is that still special order?

It is comes free with the free Napa Leather upgrade with the Luxury Line or M-Sport. However that seems to good to be true, I'll ask the dealer to check on Tuesday. The smooth leather dash with stitching is really beautiful. The dealership had an X5M on the showroom floor with that dash and it looked spectacular.

2014 LCI August ED

Pharding, did you get a confirmation for your 2014 LCI August ED? I put my order in last Wednesday for August 17th ED (first choice), but have not gotten confirmation yet. I was told by the CA that it will be some time this week when BMW will confirm. I also heard, here from some other festers, that the 2014 5 series will not be available for ED till September 2nd. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Interesting. Where does it say that? I read the ordering guide and may be missing it. All I see is different dash colors not specifically leather.

My CA told me that. However I emailed him this evening asking him to investigate that further. The BMW press release photos do not show a leather dashboard because there are no seams visible. I would put the leather dash in the doubtful category.

I reserved a slot at the Welt for Friday, August 9, 9 AM over a month ago through my CA. I just placed the order today, Saturday, May 25. This is my second BMW this year so they take good care of me.

Congrats! Were they able to show you exactly what a 2014 LCI M-Sport will look like?

Btw, I guess you can change your sig from 2014 535d to 550i

If you go to the LCI 5er on the German BMW Web Site, go to the pricing book. It looks the same as the current iteration on the front, except for possibly the headlights and fog lams that are almost imperceptible.

Agreed on Elmhurst BMW, their sales team is great. Finance guys are a little slimy, though...

Kudos for Jet Black -- I know people love the metallics, but I'm so happy I went with the hard-to-care-for jet black.

And that exec package, I'm not sure why BMW doesn't just ask you to bend over instead.

Perfect, I should find out tomorrow if August is good.
BTW, do I need to reserve the Welt? I was under the impression that BMW ED will do that once they confirm you a delivery day.

Congrats on your new 550

Pharding, I thought for sure you'd end up with the diesel... That 550i has got to get only 1/2 the mpg of the 535d

I tried to reserve a slot too, but my CA, and the ED office wouldn't let me. I just ordered a 2014 AH5, M-sport, carbon black with mocha and anthracite trim for August 10 delivery at the Welt. Not confirmed yet. I guess since its only my third ED, I don't get as special treatment.

A comparably equipped diesel with just a few of the executive package options is $6,000 less with a projected residual value of 50%, using the value of the X5d versus the 60% residual value of the 550i. The monthly payments come out almost identical. Of course if BMW offers the eco credit the situation would improve for the diesel. When the final lease rates come out for the 2014 5er I will reconsider the diesel.

If the $3500 Eco credit for the 535d is available, I should be able to go that route. That assumes I like the way it drives

Wow AH5 is available with m sport now? Will be a toss up between the AH5 and diesel for me.

The promise I made to myself is that, going forward, I will never skimp on ARS. My current car does not have it and boy do I miss it.

PHarding - off topic; I love your Firm's work. Wickedly cool work on religious structures. Do you do any business in Dallas? Here you have mega churches every other block

Ya, appears so. The AH3 has always been available with M-sport, which is what I have now. If I had to do it again, a diesel is probably the more fuel efficient option.
