Ceramic Brake Pads supposed to squeal this much ???

Just put Ceramics on all 4 corners. No complaints about the stopping power, but they squeak like all hell coming to a stop. Is there a break-in period after which they go back to silent mode ?? I'm about to hose 'em down with WD-40 (only kidding).

On a related note, they sure keep the rims clean. But I can clean the rims.....that squealing is a big pain.

Squealing doesn't have much to do with whether you have ceramic or not. Something is hitting a resonance frequency, which depends on mass of things involved, and there you go. Normally the advise is to randomly change brake components to something slightly different to throw the resonance off.

My e46 squeals less with the ceramics.

Did the pads come with insulating material on the backing plates? If not, steel-on-steel can cause the noise.

did you replace the rotors?? Did you lube you shims or caliper sliders. Assuming that you just crammed pads in, you need to service your brakes and replace or machine your rotors and I am sure it will stop.

Yeah, Rotors were replaced with new units. This wasn't a "cram job"-- fully serviced. This is my first experience with Ceramics.

You need to put a thin layer of high temp antisieze on the backs of the brake pads and on the surfaces of the brackets contacted by the brake pads. Your squealing is coming from those surfaces, not from the contact between the pad and the rotor.

Edit-You also need to perform a bedding in procedure after a brake job. Google will give you instructions.

That maybe right, but he did say the brakes were serviced, and if they did a proper job, they should have done that.

Mein Auto:
In most times people get the squeaking sound from their brake pads when they don't apply the brake pad lubricant on the back of the pads.

What brand and model? some ceramics are better than others. Just went through a brake change and put in the Akebono Euro model, super quiet, very little dust, good bite, all in all a great street pad.

What brand ceramic pads? They should NOT squeal. Under what conditions are you experiencing the squeal?
