My convertible will not go down!

Recently I moved and I just had this bright idea of stuffing all of my bags in the little Z4. Anyways after I unloaded everything I went to put the top down, and it will not do anything! The light on the button is orange instead of red. I'm thinking one of my bags hit a sensor or pushed something up, I'm lost I've tried everything! It's an 07 Z4 3.0i roadster. Thanks for any input!

Haven't heard anything! I'm tempted to go down to the BMW dealer but I really don't want to dish out $500 bucks just for some advice.. If I hear anything, or if you do, just post it on here if you don't mind!

Did you check the microswitch in the trunk?

http://www.shipkiller.com/images/Com...r%20Switch.jpg

It really sounds like you pushed the 'compartment floor' or shelf up off of the microswitch. The top will not open unless the switch is made.

Also, the silver lever arm that is attached to the switch can come off...

If you manually open the top, then attempt to close the top normally and this works, the issue IS the microswitch that is causing the issue.

The compartment floor probably just need lowered by turning the two big black knobs. You will see them if you look for them when you open the trunk. You may have never noticed them before. The top will not operate if the compartment floor is in the raised position.

jctrell,

That is mostly correct. The top will still close (go up) if the switch is not made.

Wow sorry to hear that! It should be fine driving. You haven't had any problems with the car actually driving have you? And your car isn't somewhere where maybe mice or some rodent could be chewing your wires?

I hate to say it but I think your softtop motor is bad. Classic case of this.
