SP and snow/rain

I keep reading comments that Sp does not mix well if you live in an area that recieves a lot of snow and/or rain. Is this more or less just the opinion of the driver, or is there a reason behind this? I talked to a local tire dealer and he said putting on seasonal tires would not be a problem (aka snow tires).

Get different tires and it's fine (as far as RWD cars go, anyway)

All X5's and X3's are AWD.

I've had my X5 (non-sport) in really deep snow with the standard all-weather Michelin tires and it performed exceptionally well.

Rain shouldn't be a problem, but snow and cold weather will be.. I'm amazed that BMW put summer tires on an AWD SUV, in the Sport package. You still get all-seasons on the 325xi and 330xi with Sport, so I'm not sure what their thinking is. It isn't just some driver's opinion... ask anyone who has tried to drive in snow with summer tires.. it is dangerous, AWD or not.
