Magnaflow 16537 Exhaust Replacement

So I've been interested in a different exhaust for a while; I don't want it obnoxiously loud, I just want to bring out a little bitter of a lower tone in the exhaust note, nothing flamboyantly loud, without sacrificing quality and performance, and manageable as far as price goes. I've been looking into the magnaflow 16537. First off, would this work with my 06 325i? I can get it on amazon for about $900. Will this restrict or enhance performance? Not looking for much HP gain, maybe a mile or two extra on MPG, but I don't want to make the mistake of getting a poor exhaust system and hurting my car. Also, how much could I get in parts for my current factory exhaust? Let me know what you all think!

And because I'm more interested in just a more full, possibly lower exhaust note, should I just replace the muffler instead of the entire exhaust system?

Magnaflow exhausts are amongst the loudest none race exhausts out there. It will defintely add bass to your ride!

I have one on my M3 and I am currently getting extra resonator/Helmholtz chambers welded on to cut down on highway cruising drone. (see this thread: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ight=helmholtz).

It should translate to a few more HP for a cat-back system. Putting in high flow cats, or different x-pipes will produce more. However, I have heard one mechanic comment that too little exhaust resistance changes the gas flow rate out of the cylinder and change how the exhaust valve is heated by the the exiting gas flow. The valves are designed to operate at a specific load range, and changing this might affect longevity. However, BMW engines are made of sterner stuff than most other engines.

Check the classifieds for people parting out exhausts. You will get one much cheaper...I got a $1200 (at the time) Magnaflow for my M3 for 550 that was hardly used (it was too loud for the guy's kids). Don't sell your OEM exhaust...it isn't worth much and you will need it if you sell the car later, or get sick of the exhaust.
