Finally...Picking up '13 E92 tmrw

I'd say it's been a long 6 weeks but that would offend those who waited longer. Some history: Owned 3 Accord Coupes, one IS 250 AWD and had the luxury of baby sitting a '12 750 for over a yr...which you can imagine led me to want my own.

My question is to all you E92 owners, what should I do when I get it? I'm picking it up from my friends at BMW Greenwich so will be in NE. Gun it on 95 and avoid the cops? Take the Taconic for the turns....what do you suggest?

For those interested here's the stats, will post pics tmrw:

'13 335xi M Pkg
Black Sapphire, Black Dakota
Premium
Navi
Keyless
Heated Seats

Its a 36 mo lease for $499/month, total $5,002 due at signing includes the tax up front and $1,250 down (I know, MSDs's...blah blah). 10K miles per yr. Free Mats, yeah!

I know it's a lease, but you should take it rather easy on the engine, there is a recommended break in period, I believe 1200 miles you should keep the revs in the lower range of the band. After all I suppose there's a chance you buy it out at lease end. Also your tires will still have mold release compounds and won't be "broken in" for 200-500 miles or something like that. Otherwise, enjoy the heck out of it. Read the manual. Go in the trunk, close the lid, and pull the glow in the dark emergency handle. Discover the hidden tool set, the little holder for the missing flashlight in the glove compartment, the little removable leaf catchers at the corners underneath the hood, realize that the slots underneath the armrest are for coins, decide if you want to put a fire extinguisher where a spare tire should have been, appreciate all the safety features including the explosive charge at the battery as well as for your seat belts that get set off by an accelerometer...

Do not, and I repeat, do NOT trick your girlfriend into doing this. Unless you have a queen size couch......

Definitely will respect the engine and am not a foolishly aggressive driver so can wait the 1200 miles or so to start gunning it. Thanks for all the tips!

Enjoy, take it easy on I95, lots of eager cops, willing to make you contribute towards closing CT's budget deficit!
I drive to/from Stamford twice per week and see them hide all over the place.
Have fun with the new car and here comes the obligatory statement: PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!

Wow that's a beautiful e92! Congratulations.

I am interested in how you are enjoying it compared to the 750i? I know, completly different cars, but they are each fun in their own way. I owned an e65 750 for a few years, and have driven the f01, and I much prefer the fun, tight drive of the 3 even though the 7 is pretty fast and VERY nice on the inside.

As far as what to do I say tune and summer tires and you're set!

Thanks I love it.

The 335 feels much quicker and handles better but that's expected due to size. 750 had more options inside but nothing I miss (maybe the button to close the trunk?)

Not investing in summer tires cause the car is a lease. Curious what you mean by tube though?

350 a month is the standard bmwusa deal which excludes tax and would be over 6k down. That sticker is prob msrp 49 vs 55 with navi and mpkg. I shopped around and this was best deal. Helps that I know the GM since grade school!

Right and this excludes tax and title which is over 2k. Plus this doesn't have options other than leather. Gets pricey when you start adding all the goodies.

Congrats on the car.

I drive on the Taconic from I90 down to Hopewell all the time. Taconic is HORRIBLE for cops. They have 4WD SUV's and hide literally up small hills between the trees. They nail you as you drive by and the only way you see them is in your rear view looking up towards the tree line. It's ridiculous.

Speed limit is 55mph and it's absolute torture in the 335i. I set the cruise at 64mph, 5th gear, and try not to get bored! That's with my Escort turned on!.

Torture, torture I tell you!! That car could easily do 80mph with ease on that road.

It's often during that long drive that I ponder driving a Honda Civic instead..

I've got the same build except the keyless. Are you over 1200 miles yet? Although at the dealer they weren't concerned about the break-in. Nonetheless, I haven't hit it fully yet.
Are you cool with the 17" 194m's?
Either way, I'm loving mine 500 miles in. I take the toll road and beltway early in the morning and 80-100 mph (for short bursts) then some curvy back roads are the reason I bought this machine.

Enjoy.

Be paranoid when you park. Park further out and walk more. Park in the rightmost space to minimize door dings. Don't let people put things in or take things out of the trunk. You do it. Otherwise the back end will get scratched up in no time. Don't pull all the way into parking spaces. Careful with the curb rash. Don't let bird poop sit on the paint. Avoid potholes. Get a winter wheel set. Join the local BMW CCA and take some driving lessons.

Or just say "Screw it! It's a car." And then just go out and enjoy it.
