Got it. Techron provides the same additives (more or less) as Chevron. We frequently site products like Techron as snake-oil. Hence Chevron additives = snake oil. Got it. Good to know that Sunoco is not good enough

Techron is Chevron's additive package that gets added to the gas at the distribution terminal. How much Techron is in a gallon of Chevron is probably open to debate, but if you followed the label instructions, you are probably getting similar levels of detergent.

The real snake oil is the octane boosters. You drop $$$ to get a 1/10th point increase in octane (and maybe foul the catalytic converter in the bargain). Much better to blend 101 octane unleaded race gas vs. buy the octane boosters.

Are you in northern VA? If so, I wonder if it has something to do with the Sunoco fuel in our area... Maybe the tank farm (Newington?) where they add the additive package?

Top Tier gas has magical powers?

Funny thing I get better performance and mileage from Costco gas. Tried a few tanks from shell and Exxon. Costco performs better and I get 2 miles better. 19.2 vs 21.2.

Oh and it's 30 cents cheaper than Exxon or Shell in my area.

I'm doubting that your formulations are similar to the U.S., but nevertheless I looked up "refineries" in Wales. All I could come up with is: "Penderyn" in Rhondda Cyon Taf...but I believe this is the former "Welsh Whiskey Company" now producing a new Welsh whiskey (congratulations).

May I ask: Is this fine Welsh product aged enough to use as an "alternative" fuel?

In the U.S. we have "E82," but we don't sell it off the shelf.

Apart from Shell there is BP Ultimate. Last time I checked Tesco were offering high performance unleaded around London and SE...not in my neck of the woods though.

Reset my MPG (read the manual again)...getting 32 mpg mix of motorway and rural (Gower).

pointandgo...

Our refineries are in Llandarcy, Neath BP and several down west in Milford Haven.

You are talking Valleys re RCT...where there used to be coal mines. Now, quality roads to nowhere.

Noticed Venezuela still not talking to USA but quite willing to sell you half of their oil. And life goes on.

I have been using the same Sunoco for over 2 years filling up with 93 and have never noticed a lack of performance issue. What I have noticed is that the last 4 tank fulls my distance to empty has changed to 375 miles down from 400?

well thats one place the government does testing and one place they are needed to keep companies selling what they advertise
most of the other places they stick their nose in is not their business

well the more Alcohol they put in our gas the lower the gas mileage you will get and the worse it is for our cars, Like the government cares about that

try putting 100 percent petroleum in your car and see how much your gas mileage improves, thats if you can find it

Alcohol won't hurt our cars at the 10% mix. Mileage is affected though.

If the gas trucks come from corporate, the driver fills the station tanks not the station owner. Seems unlikely the driver would be filling up premium tanks with regular.

But I do have to admit, strangely I do have a fav shell station and it's not even the closest one to me, price not withstanding.

Costco with a jug of Techron every month. The Raleigh Costco station is one of their tire one matching stations. List of high end station is on the Costco site

Funny, we've been using Costco gasoline for over 10 years on 2 BMWs, a Porsche, several Toyotas. Never had a dealer or indy do an "injector clean", have thrown in random jugs of Techron (from Costco), and NEVER HAD AN INJECTOR PLUGGED.

Too bad you're in so much denial about this subject.

Agree been using Techron pretty much since it came out & have never replaced an injector on anything I have owned over that time span. Been using Costco gas as long as the store has been here.

BTW I am very much anti-additive of any kind & am convinced that Costco/Techron is an effective combo.

My experience with non-detergent gas is more with fouled intake valves. Cold-start stalling and stumbling that went away once the service tech did a de-carbonization procedure was enough to make me switch to Chevron. If Chevron wasn't an option, then I would use Techron added to the gas with each fill.
