The thread was pretty to begin with, I mean how many of these same threads are there weekly?

There would be less if posters actually answered or just read and walked away, instead of just post_count_boosting

Who cares about post counts? I sure don't, I'm just bored at work and am trying to entertain myself.

If traceroute shows servers other than your broadband provider being the bottleneck, you are basically screwed. My experience with VZW LTE service on the S.F. peninsula is that VZW provides very good download (latency ~40 - 50 msec, 18 - 22 Mb/sec down) service. The problem is with some of the servers beyond VZWs end.

Well, in theory, yes, but if it's just a few of the gif sources, then that theory blows. Aside from the slowness on the mobile side, they just get in the way from real community content. Ignore list has solved my kid issues for now.

We had that, prior to 1993. The latter was the Internet and the former was AOL (and Prodigy and parts of Compuserve). Then the walls fell and it's been downhill ever since.

Back then, order of quality and importance:

Local Bulletin boards (BBS) > Connecting to other BBS > College Intraweb > "Internet" >AOL. AOL was even looked down upon back then. You used prodigy/compuserve as a gateway to the "internet"

I remember, being a Doom Operator. I setup doom on our local BBS and we would play for hours, on the same level, killing each other non stop. Then I remember playing MajorMud (text based game)...I remember thinking "wow, wouldn't it be great if these text based RPGs merged with FPS"...BAM - about 12 years later we get world of warcraft. Milestones in gaming: Doom/Duke Nukem. Counter strike. Diablo/Diablo II (Diablo II really helped stage WoW)

You young posers. I go back to USENET and uucp, way back before there was an "internet". Ops had to re-compile the routing table (we were connected through UC Berkeley) weekly when sites were added. Probably a couple posts from me somewhere in groups.google but I can't remember my alias then.

Thank you. This is the time I was referring to, when "Internet" was not generally mistaken for "HTTP/World Wide Web;" when its purpose was still primarily to aid collaboration between R&D campuses of all stripes; when access to it was nigh impossible unless you worked for the US Government (.gov/.mil), a college/university (.edu) or a large(-ish) corporation (.com/.net/.org). (For that matter, the Internet (as ARPANET) predates the Domain Name System by many years.)

[Imagine a "Get off my lawn!" animated GIF here.]
