e39 528i Clutch change help

New to the forum, joined to see if I could get some help.

I bought the car about 3 months ago, its a 2000 528i with 106k on it. All original, in very good condition. Started doing a few maintenance things too it, planned on working on the cooling system this summer.

But before I could do any of that, the clutch went out. Downshifted to merge on the highway, and a loud squeal and it started grinding and the clutch dropped to the floor. It still drove, so I got it back to my house and in the garage.

I pulled the transmission, removed what was left of the clutch. The flywheel seemed okay, so I reused that. I replaced the rest of the components. Clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing and throw out bearing. After a couple days I eventually got everything back together. Ended up replacing the slave cylinder while it was out, as well.

The problem came when I tried to start the car. In neutral, it sounds fine. No noises, ran great. However, it will not go into gear. It shifts fine when the car is off. The clutch does not want to engage it seems.

I bled the slave twice, and pulled the transmission twice now double checking to make sure everything was okay. The clutch fork is seated, and so is the throw out bearing. Im getting really frustrated with it. If anyone had some ideas at what it could be, it we be appreciated.

If you need any other information, just ask.
